Accountant - Renewable Energy - Cape Town
Our client, one of Africa’s largest independent power producers, is seeking a detail‑oriented and proactive Accountant with at least three years’ experience in the renewable energy sector to join their team in Cape Town
.
This role is responsible for ensuring accurate, timely, and reliable accounting and financial reporting for our company‑managed operating power plants. Working closely with the operations team, the Accountant will play a key role in supporting plant performance, driving operational efficiency, and maintaining strong financial controls across the business.
Responsibilities- Prepare and manage transactional and reporting processes
- Complete all calculations and capture necessary month‑end entries, including accruals, loan amortisations, provisions, intercompany transactions, etc.
- Invoicing of revenue and preparation of monthly entries.
- Maintain fixed asset registers, including creation of new assets and disposals.
- Prepare balance sheet and key income statement reconciliations.
- Review bank and other balance sheet reconciliations prepared by the accounts administrators
- Prepare the finance inputs and analysis for monthly shareholder and stakeholder reports and board reports, including explanations of key variances
- Complete year‑end packs
- Responsible for the completion and filing of tax returns, including VAT, WHT, etc.
- Ensure timely receipts of debtors’ balances and creditor payments
- Prepare cash flow forecasts and highlight shortfalls to the budget
- Maintain debt schedules and repayment of debt
- Provide inputs to complete the lender and statutory reporting.
- Completion of ad hoc compliance reports from various institutions, including Stats SA, NERSA, etc.
- Report procurement spend for the quarter to the economic development team
- Partner with the operations teams on the budgeting and forecasting process
- Upload of budgets into the accounting system
- Review all payment proposals prepared by the Finance
- Ad hoc support to the finance and operations team on items including but not limited to: BBBEE reporting, vendor management,
- Undertake ad hoc finance responsibilities in support of the group, as appropriate
