The RoleJunior Sports Trader
As a Junior Sports Trader, you''ll support the trading team in managing live sports markets, monitoring client activity, and contributing to real-time trading decisions. You''ll be hands-on with odds, pricing, and risk monitoring, working closely with senior traders to ensure a seamless and compliant betting operation. This role is ideal for someone passionate about sports and interested in building a career in sports trading.
Key Responsibilities- Support the trading desk with pricing, market monitoring, and bet validation
- Monitor live markets and assist with real-time odds updates
- Flag unusual or sharp betting activity
- Assist in managing liabilities and risk exposure with the guidance of senior traders
- Communicate effectively with internal teams to process Whats App-based bets
- Keep accurate records of trading decisions and market changes
- Ensure accurate bet placement and settlement in compliance with UKGC guidelines
- Strong interest in sports trading and betting markets, especially UK sports
- Numerate and analytical, with good spreadsheet and data handling skills
- Calm under pressure, able to make quick decisions in a live trading environment
- Available to work rotation shifts, including evenings and weekends
- Detail-oriented with high accuracy and a strong sense of responsibility
- Familiarity with odds formats, exchange principles, and trading platforms (Betfair knowledge a plus)
- Understanding of responsible gambling practices and UKGC compliance (training provided)
- Strong communicator, able to work effectively in a tech-enabled, office-based environment
- Experience with tools like Bet Radar, Oddschecker, or Betfair Exchange
- Background in a sports book or customer-facing betting environment
- Interest in a long-term career in trading, risk, or sports analytics
- Basic technical skills (e.g., Excel, Python, SQL)
- Note:
This role is Cape Town-based, office-based, and requires eligibility to work under UKGC regulations.
