Position: Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) Specialist - 12 Month Contract

Main purpose of position

We are currently seeking an Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) Specialist to join our Cape Town office and be part of our global team working toward our vision:
Improving our Future. As our EPR Specialist you will be responsible for ensuring Scatec’s full compliance with the National Environmental Management:
Waste Act (2008), the 2021 Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) Regulations, and associated sector‑specific Notices applicable to electronics, batteries, packaging and lighting. The role establishes and manages Scatec’s centralized EPR compliance framework, including lifecycle tracking of imported products from market entry through to end‑of‑life outcomes. The Specialist will assess and strengthen existing tracking processes, close compliance gaps, and implement a consolidated reporting system across business functions.

responsibilities
  • Lead Scatec’s compliance with the Waste Act (2008) and Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) Regulations.
  • Establish and manage a centralized system to track imports across the full product lifecycle, from market entry to end‑of‑life.
  • Consolidate and validate cross‑functional data (Supply Chain, Engineering, O&M, Environmental, Finance) for accurate EPR reporting.
  • Maintain complete, auditable registers of imported equipment, packaging, batteries, lighting and associated waste streams.
  • Prepare and submit compliant regulatory reports and ensure alignment with government requirements.
  • Evaluate and manage Producer Responsibility Organisation (PRO) participation or internal compliance structures.
  • Assess existing tracking processes, identify gaps, and implement improved systems and controls.
  • Support financial planning, fee forecasting, audits, and governance related to EPR obligations.
Qualifications and competencies
  • Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, Environmental Management, Law or related field.
  • 3–5 years’ experience in data‑heavy reporting, compliance, or ESG/EPR‑related roles.
  • Strong data management capability with advanced Excel proficiency.
  • Experience designing or improving systems and processes across multiple business functions.
  • Ability to interpret regulatory or legal requirements and translate them into practical operational controls.
  • Analytical mindset with financial acumen and high attention to detail.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to work independently and cross‑functionally.
  • Troubleshooting and problem solving within area of responsibility.
  • Able to multi‑task under pressure.
