Summary

The purpose of this role is to hold full technical accountability for HVAC projects from initial concept through to detailed design, procurement, commissioning, and validation.

HVAC Design Engineer (BEng/BSc.Eng/B.Tech)

A senior, design‑led role spearheading technical design and delivery of HVAC systems within the pharmaceutical and biotechnology sectors.

Cape Town, South Africa.

The company operates within the life science sector, specifically focusing on pharmaceutical and biotechnology projects. It delivers HVAC systems for specialized environments including ISO‑classified clean rooms, laboratories, and high‑containment production suites.

Full technical accountability for HVAC projects from initial concept through to detailed design, procurement, commissioning, and validation. Provides technical leadership, develops robust solutions for GMP‑regulated environments, including pressure cascades and biosafety environments. Contributes to the business by ensuring technical excellence, regulatory compliance, and growth of the technical team through mentorship.

• Demonstrate a minimum of 3–5 years of experience in HVAC design and at least 2 years in pharmaceutical or biotech projects.
• Manage conceptual and detailed HVAC designs for specialized life science facilities and ISO‑classified clean rooms.
• Perform and review heat load calculations, airflow rates, psychrometric analysis, and equipment sizing.
• Produce HVAC schematics, P&IDs, 2D/3D layout drawings, and comprehensive technical reports.
• Ensure all designs strictly adhere to GMP, GEP, and relevant ISO or regulatory standards such as WHO, EU, or FDA.
• Develop equipment specifications, manage technical adjudication, and provide oversight of subcontractor deliverables.
• Supervise commissioning activities and support validation documentation including DQ, IQ, and OQ.
• Guide junior engineers and act as the primary technical contact for clients and regulatory stakeholders.

• Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering (BEng/BSc Eng/B.Tech).
• Minimum 3–5 years of experience in HVAC design.
• At least 2 years of experience in pharmaceutical or biotech projects with proven experience in GMP‑compliant clean rooms.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD (2D/3D) and HVAC Design Software such as HAP or equivalent.
• Advanced skills in MS Word for formatting and MS Excel for complex formulas and data management.
• Valid driver’s license, passport, and ability to travel for project execution.
• Physically capable of conducting site inspections and commissioning oversight.
• ECSA Professional registration (PrEng/Pr Tech Eng ) is preferred.
• Experience with Revit for 3D modeling and coordination is highly preferred.
