The Opportunity
We’re seeking an energetic and skilled Field Engineer to join our maintenance team in Cape Town. In this critical role, you’ll provide technical expertise to resolve complex issues, support our maintenance technicians, and ensure the safety and performance of KONE’s elevators and escalators. As a role model for KONE’s values—Care, Customer, Collaboration, and Courage—you’ll drive quality service and foster proactive communication with customers and end-users.
Key Responsibilities
Resolve complex technical issues assigned by the Technical Helpdesk (THD) on both KONE and various Non-Kone Equipment (NKE) products, providing remote and on-site support to maintenance technicians.Conduct technical due diligence for new equipment (KONE or competitor products) as requested by sales or supervisors.Identify and address technical issues or safety hazards in equipment to prevent callouts, creating sales leads where applicable.Perform tests and final inspections on KONE and non-KONE (NKE) elevators and escalators to ensure compliance with safety and performance standards.Provide feedback to the THD Manager on product improvements, repair needs, or methods to reduce callouts and enhance safety.Provide timely, professional feedback on all requests assigned to you by the THD Manager.Identify technical competence gaps for maintaining new equipment and communicate them to the Maintenance Supervisor or THD Manager.Troubleshoot and resolve issues with remote monitoring and alarm systems.Plan and manage workload effectively in collaboration with the THD Manager.Uphold safe working practices, adhering to KONE’s maintenance and safety protocols to protect end-users and colleagues.What We’re Looking For
N6 Diploma in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, or a related technical qualification. An Elevator Trade Test Certificate will be considered an advantage.Minimum 5 years’ experience in a Field Engineer or similar technical role, preferably within the elevator or escalator industry.Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues efficiently.Experience working with non-KONE equipment (NKE) will be considered an advantage.Escalator maintenance experience will be beneficial.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal teams and engage professionally with customers.Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel regularly to client sites.Flexibility to travel on short notice to support teams with urgent or high-profile customer requests within their respective regions.Willingness to work overtime when required to address urgent operational needs.Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, while coordinating effectively with regional teams and stakeholders.Why Join KONE?
