Lead Engineer – Transportation Contracts

The successful candidate will be a key member of the Transportation team, leading the development and delivery of road and/or airport infrastructure projects across South Africa and sub-Saharan Africa. The role focuses on construction-stage project delivery, including contractor procurement, preparation of tender and contract documentation, and effective contract administration during construction. The engineer will provide technical oversight, resolve construction issues, support project continuity, and may also contribute to earlier project stages, feasibility assessments, and ad-hoc pavement design as required.

The role requires a self-motivated professional capable of working independently, demonstrating strong commercial and technical judgment, and taking ownership of project outcomes.

Requirements:

• BSc / BEng / BTech Civil Engineering with Pr Eng or Pr Tech Eng (ECSA)
• 8–10 yrs civil consulting experience; 3–5 yrs as Contracts Engineer on road/airport projects
• Strong pavement engineering knowledge (rigid & flexible), investigations, and material testing
• Expertise in SAICE GCC & FIDIC; contract administration, construction monitoring, tendering, claims
• Technical knowledge of surfacing seal, asphalt, cement stabilization, concrete designs
• Understanding of road construction, maintenance, rehabilitation
• Negotiation, dispute resolution, leadership, and mentoring experience
• MS Office, MS Projects, and contract management tools
• Able to work independently, manage multiple projects, meet deadlines
