CONSTRUCTION DIRECTOR – POWER -
SOLAR PV, BESS & SUBSTATIONS -
NORTHERN CAPE & WESTERN CAPE
The main purpose of the role:
The Construction Director – Power is responsible for the end-to-end construction delivery of all power generation and grid infrastructure projects across Phelan’s portfolio. This includes utility-scale Solar PV plants, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), MV/HV substations, and associated grid connection infrastructure across multiple regions.
Responsibilities:

Group-Wide Construction Leadership & Governance

Programme & Project Planning

Solar PV & BESS Construction Oversight

Contractor & Commercial Management

HSE, Quality & Compliance

Reporting & Stakeholder Management

Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Civil, or Mechanical Engineering (Electrical preferred).

Minimum 15 years’ experience in large-scale power or renewable infrastructure construction.

Proven delivery of multiple utility-scale Solar PV projects, including programmes exceeding several hundred MW.

Demonstrated experience with BESS deployment and HV substation construction.

Strong understanding of EPC/EPCM contracts, grid compliance, and construction law.

Experience managing large, multi-project capital portfolios (R10bn+ preferred).
