Manager (Projects and Proposals) – Bulk Material Handling, Cape Town, South Africa

We are seeking a Manager (Projects and Proposals) – Bulk Material Handling to lead, mentor, and coordinate a team of Proposal Engineers and Project Managers responsible for the development of competitive, high-quality proposals and the successful execution of large, complex bulk material handling projects.

This role will oversee the full project lifecycle, from early engagement and tender strategy through detailed engineering, procurement, project execution, and final delivery. The successful candidate will ensure technical accuracy, commercial competitiveness, risk management, and compliance with client and regulatory requirements.

The Manager will work closely with engineering, procurement, construction, and commercial teams to align resources, schedules, and budgets, while maintaining a strong focus on safety, quality, and performance. They will also provide leadership in establishing best practices, improving proposal and project delivery processes, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives.

TEAM YOU BELONG TO

The Manager (Projects and Proposals) will be part of a multidisciplinary bulk material handling team comprising experienced engineers, project managers, and commercial specialists. The team works collaboratively across engineering, procurement, construction, and business development to deliver innovative, reliable, and cost-effective material handling solutions.

• Manage proposal engineers and project managers, providing guidance, mentoring, and performance management
• Foster collaboration between engineering, procurement, and commercial teams
• Follow and promote global processes, standards, and best practices across proposals and project execution
• Oversee the preparation of technical and commercial proposals for port and bulk material handling solutions
• Ensure compliance with client specifications, industry standards, contractual requirements, and company strategy
• Drive cost estimation, risk assessment, value engineering, and constructability reviews to optimise solutions
• Support project managers in project planning, scheduling, resource allocation, and preparation for execution
• Monitor project progress, budgets, risks, and quality to ensure delivery in line with contractual milestones and deadlines
• Resolve technical, commercial, and logistical challenges during proposal development and project execution
• Support and lead interfaces with clients during proposal, negotiation, and project delivery phases
• Coordinate with internal departments and global functions (engineering, logistics, global project management, and proposals teams) to ensure alignment and consistency
• Align proposals and projects with business objectives, profitability targets, and long‑term growth strategy
• Identify and implement opportunities for process improvement, standardisation, and innovation in port and bulk material handling solutions
• Support contract review, change management, and claims mitigation in collaboration with commercial and legal teams
• Contribute to workload planning, resource forecasting, and capability development within the projects and proposals team

• Technical Degree or relevant prior experience essential
• 6–12 years of experience in project management, proposal development
• PMP Certification and/or extensive PM experience essential.
