We are seeking a Professional Structural Engineer to lead a team of engineers and technologists to design and sign off on buildings and structures. You will be responsible for the structural design and implementation of our technology from an engineering perspective into ongoing projects, including site inspections during construction, and for the constant further development of our building technology by collaborating with our strong research and development team.
Duties
Lead a Structural Engineering Team through all stages of design to:
- Perform structural analyses on both conventional and buildings and structures
- Perform conceptual and detailed structural designs and incorporate building technologies
- Compile and submit rational design reports where necessary
- Collaborate with and assist international engineering firms through the design process of international projects that incorporate building technologies
- Explore and obtain certification for non-standard building materials, elements, or systems where necessary
General and Admin:
- Build a suitable team strong enough to carry the workload (currently over 800 units in planning in South Africa, the US, and Switzerland with a number of further countries with leads)
- Liaise with the Research & Development Team to continually improve building technology
- Regular reporting to the Heads of Engineering & Design
Requirements
- Bachelors degree in structural/civil engineering
- Minimum 5 years experience as structural engineer
- Professionally registered engineer with ECSA
- Experience with reinforced concrete and masonry materials for design and analysis according to local and
- international norms (Eurocode, SANS, etc.)
- Skilled in Finite Element Modelling (FEM)
- Excellent project management and communication skills
- Highly motivated and attention to detail
- Keen on leading an international team of professionals
Preferred
- Masters degree in structural engineering
- 8+ years experience in structural engineering
- Experience with alternative construction methods and materials
- Willingness to get your hands dirty at times
- Eager to learn and adopt new materials, technologies, and construction methods
