About Us

Reporting to the site Supervisor, the Fiber Splicer is responsible for the splicing, testing, installation and maintenance of fiber optic cables to ensure reliable telecommunications and broadband services. This role involves working with specialized equipment to fuse and terminate fiber cables, troubleshoot network issues, and ensure compliance with industry standards.

Responsibilities
  • Splice, test, and troubleshoot fiber optic cables for residential, commercial and infrastructure projects.
  • Inspect and assess fiber optic installations, identifying and repairing faults or deficiencies.
  • Use specialized equipment such as a fusion splicing machine and optical time domain reflectometers (OTDR) to ensure proper cable functionality and alignment.
  • Conduct post-splicing testing to verify signal strength and identify any potential issues.
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and team members to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards and safety regulations while performing all tasks with or without supervision.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge,

Skills and Abilities
  • Solid knowledge of fiber optics technologies, systems and troubleshooting methods.
  • Proficiency with fiber splicing tools and equipment.
  • Strong understanding of fiber optic cables, connectors, and the splicing process.
  • Strong attention to detail and patience.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documents, blueprints, and schematics.
  • Ability to work in outdoor environments, sometimes in challenging conditions such as wind, rain, cold temperatures, hot temperatures, and snow.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings or weekends, based on project and business needs.
  • Exposure to outdoor elements including extreme heat and cold temperatures, humidity, rain, snow, sleet, wind, uneven terrain, road noise and traffic. Will routinely work around heavy equipment and tools with moving mechanical parts.
Education & Experience
  • High School diploma or high school equivalency diploma; additional technical training in fiber optics is a plus.
  • Prior experience in telecommunications.
  • Must be flexible to assist in other roles as needed.
  • Must possess a valid US driver's license.
  • Must wear PPE as required.
