Southeast Behavioral Hospital is excited to begin offering a full continuum of inpatient and outpatient services to the people of Southeast Missouri. Located on the banks of the Mississippi River in the Cape Girardeau region, the hospital provides a wide range of mental, emotional and behavioral health services for children, teens, adults and seniors experiencing mental health issues such as depression, anxiety and co‑occurring substance‑use issues.

Position Summary:
The Lead Mental Health Technician ensures patient safety, assists the Chief Nursing Officer with planning and oversight of the mental health technician patient care role, and facilitates continuous and safe patient care, observation, interaction and role modeling. Under the oversight of the Nurse Educator, the Lead MHT is responsible for primary training, preceptorship and mentorship of the MHTs throughout the facility.
- High School Diploma or equivalent;
Certified Nursing Assistant preferred.
- Three (3) years’ related experience with knowledge of psychiatric patient care techniques and understanding of mental illness preferred.
- At least one year of experience coaching and developing other staff members in psychiatric patient care techniques or performing similar duties at the facility.
- Successful completion of approved Basic Life Support and approved Crisis Prevention & Behavioral Management training. Certifications may be obtained during new hire orientation.
- Obtain and maintain certification as an instructor/facilitator for Verbal De‑escalation, Aggression Management, CPR/BLS or other additional duties above and beyond the MHT requirements.
