Assistant Director of Nursing

Schedule:

Monday‑Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM (occasional weekends may be needed based on community needs).

Position Summary

The primary purpose of the Assistant Director of Nursing Services is to assess, plan, implement and coordinate the clinical care program in conjunction with the Director of Nursing Services to ensure the highest quality of care is maintained at all times. The ADON supervises day‑to‑day nursing activities in compliance with Federal, State and local standards, guidelines and regulations. The ADON also supports, mentors and empowers the nursing staff according to the Nursing Practice Act and serves as interim DON when needed.

Qualifications

Required
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing, currently registered with the State Board of Examiners for Registered Nurses, and current CPR certification.
  • Registered Nurse with minimum 2 years’ experience in nursing supervisory or management in a long‑term care setting or equivalent.
Preferred
  • Knowledge of gerontology, rehabilitative, and medical‑surgical nursing care, Antibiotic Stewardship, Infection Prevention and Infection Control.
  • Ability to effectively manage staff, act as a team player and serve as a resource to staff.
  • Knowledge of State and Federal regulatory requirements for long‑term care.
  • Experience working with other disciplines as a team player; knowledge of RAI process, and Clinical Reimbursement including Medicare A, B & D case mix or willingness to learn.
  • Understanding of current Infection Prevention and Control and OSHA guidelines.
  • Knowledge of QAA/QAPI theory and process.
  • Ability to prioritize and complete assigned duties within a constantly changing environment.
  • Knowledge of long‑term care requirements for documentation, and communication systems to address resident condition changes.
Essential Functions / Areas of Accountability
  • Ensures VOA care clinical systems are followed and utilized; reaches out to VOANS Clinical Consultants with system issues.
  • Directs and oversees day‑to‑day functions of nursing staff and nurse managers to ensure compliance with rules, regulations and guidelines.
  • Participates in development, maintenance and updating of written policies and procedures that govern daily department function.
  • Provides leadership that includes administrative and supervisory principles essential for staff nurses and other staff.
  • Conducts daily rounds on the assigned unit to assure nursing service personnel perform required duties and provide appropriate care.
  • Participates in surveys and inspections by authorized agencies.
  • Meets with nursing staff (professional and non‑professional) and support personnel to plan department services, programs and activities.
  • Coordinates “house” activities when assigned, in the absence of the Director of Nursing, including calls to residential sections of the facility and coordination of staffing assignments.
