The Stormwater Specialist plays a vital role in urban conservation, natural resource management, and stormwater initiatives. If you’re passionate about environmental stewardship, this position offers an exciting opportunity to make a difference.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Erosion Control:
    Collaborate on implementing erosion and sediment control programs at the county and local community levels.
  • Regulation Compliance:
    Review stormwater pollution prevention plans (SWP3) to ensure alignment with state, county, and local regulations.
  • Site Inspections:
    Conduct thorough inspections of construction sites, verifying adherence to approved SWP3 and regulatory standards.
  • Stakeholder Engagement:
    Facilitate meetings with developers, contractors, and community employees, addressing pre-construction, noncompliance, violation, or final inspection matters.
  • Enforcement Coordination:
    Work closely with the County’s Prosecutors office or local community departments to escape enforcement actions, violations, and stop work orders.
  • NPDES Permit Support:
    Assist the County and communities with the Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) NPDES Permit, providing compliance guidance and handling reporting requirements.
  • Inventory Management:
    Contribute to developing and maintaining the Stormwater Control Measures (SCMs) inventory.
  • Education and Outreach:
    Participate in workshops, tours, field days, and meetings related to stormwater and other District activities.
  • Additional Responsibilities:
    As assigned by the District Program Administrator (DPA).

  • Attendance:
    Demonstrate regular and predictable attendance.
  • Conservation Advocacy:
    Actively promote conservation initiatives and uphold the mission of Stark Soil and Water Conservation District.
  • Adherence:
    Follow all policies, procedures, and job safety requirements, maintaining a clean, sanitized, and safe office environment.
  • Communication:
    Regularly communicate with the DPA, providing updates on project status.
  • Professional Development:
    Attend training sessions, classes, meetings, or workshops as assigned by the DPA or the Board, even outside normal business hours.
  • Continuous Learning:
    Pursue ongoing education and stay informed about industry trends and best practices.
Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Bachelor’s Degree (B.S.) or higher degree in conservation, natural resources, environmental science, or related field.

Six (6) months’ related work experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Candidates must have a minimum of bachelor’s degree in conservation, natural resources, engineering, or other science related field and six (6) months related work experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear; walk, stand, and sit; use hands to finger, handle and feel; occasionally required to reach with hands and arms, climb or balance.

The work may require some physical exertion such as prolonged periods of standing, walking over rough, uneven or rocky surfaces, bending, crouching, stooping, reaching or similar activities, occasional lifting of objects weighing up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required for this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Licensure of

Certifications:

Candidates must have a valid Ohio Driver’s License, and CPESC (Certified Professional in Erosion and Sediment Control) or CPSWQ (Certified Professional in Storm Water Quality) certification or ability to obtain within one (1) year of hire.
