This is an open examination. To be eligible for this position, applicants must be a U.S. Citizen or have a permanent resident card. Applicants must be a High School graduate or possess a G.E.D. and be at least 18 years of age.
General Statement of DutiesThe Treatment Operator 3 performs routine tasks of a skilled nature in the operation of a wastewater treatment plant solids-handling system. The individual works under the supervision of the Superintendent of Water Reclamation Facility (WRF) and/or a designee.
Distinguishing Features of the ClassHas responsibility for skilled duties in the operation of the wastewater treatment facility including raw pumps, bars, screens, grit & grease removal, coarse and fine screens, membrane treatment, chemical systems, and related equipment processes.
Assists maintenance personnel in major maintenance and repair projects as needed.
Performs work in accordance with procedures outlined by supervision.
Inspects various equipment throughout the facility.
Examples of Work- Makes regular inspections of the system and equipment to ascertain proper operation.
- Makes necessary adjustments to system and equipment.
- Collects samples for laboratory tests.
- May perform certain routine laboratory tests.
- Maintains logs of gauge and meter readings.
- Maintains appropriate records and reports of equipment operation.
- Reports process and equipment problems to supervision.
Knowledge of modern wastewater treatment plant principles and operating procedures. Knowledge of safety hazards and precautions of the work. Ability to use and handle mechanical tools. Ability to keep records and make reports. Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions. Skills in the operation of plant and equipment.
Acceptable Experience and TrainingGraduation from high school or GED equivalent; and possession of a Class I Wastewater Operator's Certificate issued by the Ohio EPA or the ability to obtain within two years (24 months) of being awarded the position.
Additional RequirementsAll employees appointed to the position of Treatment Operator 3 on or after January 1, 1997 shall be required to obtain a Class I Waste Water Treatment Certificate as issued by the Ohio EPA. Said employees shall be allowed a period of two years from the date of appointment or until the results of the last examination taken by the applicant within the two years are announced, whichever is longer, to qualify for the Class I Waste Water Treatment Certificate.
The employee is required to take the test within the first year of being in the position.
Waste Water Treatment incentive pay shall be paid to employee(s) in this classification provided the employee possesses a Class I, II, or III Certificate as issued by the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency, and is an employee of WRF.
ScopeThe written examination will consist of questions on the following subjects: general knowledge, science, math, mechanical ability, judgment, English usage, and other related areas. A score of 50% will be the minimum passing point.
RatingYour name will be placed on a list of eligible candidates upon receiving a passing score. Once the list has been established, your name will remain on the list for a period of one (1) year.
Repeating an ExamPer OAC Rule 123: 1-9-01, an applicant who has competed in a civil service examination cannot repeat that examination or take an examination for the same classification within four months from the date of original examination, unless an alternative form of examination is given, or unless other standards are specified in the examination announcement.
