CANTON LOCAL SCHOOL DISTRICT

Title: Intervention Specialist @ Faircrest Memorial Elementary School

Effective for the  School Year

Reports to: Principal

Job Objectives: Manage classroom and implements appropriate programs, develops Individual Education Programs (IEPs), conducts and participates in team meetings and parent conferences, manages classroom assistants and volunteers.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Valid Ohio teacher’s license or certificate appropriate for the assignment
  • Meets all mandated health requirements
  • A record free of criminal violations that would prohibit public school employment
  • Complies with drug-free workplace rules and board policies
  • Complies with Licensure code of Professional Code of Conduct for Ohio Educators
Responsibility and Essential Functions

The following duties are representative of performance expectations. A reasonable accommodation may be made to enable a qualified individual with a disability to perform essential functions.

  • Implement Individual Education Plan objectives through classroom activities including small group, individual and large group lessons
  • Develop and implement behavior management plans for students as needed
  • Develop schedules and lesson plans for classroom day allowing for a variety of activities and special events appropriate for student IEP goals
  • Communicate regularly with appropriate staff in regards to progress in the general education curriculum to determine supports needed for student success
  • Communicate progress through speech and writing, to parents and other school personnel in compliance with state and program policies and procedures
  • Conduct preliminary and ongoing evaluations of student levels and needs through formal and informal means
  • Design appropriate goals and objectives for student IEPs based on evaluations and staff and parent input
  • Work cooperatively to develop programming and evaluation through disciplinary teaming approach with general education teachers and related services providers
  • Conduct IEP parent conferences as necessary to fulfill program objectives for participation in special education
  • Provide direction and training to instructor assistants and/or volunteers assigned to the classroom
  • Adapt regular curriculum and provide alternative teaching techniques to enhance student level
  • Attend staff, IEP, behavior management, team evaluation and curriculum meetings as necessary
  • Work cooperatively with support staff to schedule time for related service evaluation and implementation
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Special Education Supervisor
  • Prepares the assigned classroom. Promotes the proper use and care of school property.
  • Teaches scheduled classes. Documents teaching performance objectives. Creates effective learning experiences.
  • Develops written lesson plans according to building procedures. Ensures that lesson plans align with the district’s adapted courses of study/state academic content standards.
  • Ensures that teaching and classroom materials are readily available for substitutes.
  • Uphold board policies and follows administrative procedures. Promotes a professional image of the school district.
  • Encourages community partnerships that enhance district programs.
  • Implements effective pupil management procedures. Maintains high expectations for behavior. Upholds the student conduct code.
  • Develops and maintains a positive learning environment. Stimulates student interest. Helps parents and students understand academic and behavioral objectives using crisis intervention if warranted.
  • Evaluates the needs of students based on all available information. Plans student interventions. Varies instructional techniques to address individual learning styles.
  • Provides guidance, communicates expectations, and shows an active interest in student progress. Facilitates critical-thinking, problem-solving, and creativity skills.
  • Collaborates with teachers. Shares knowledge and resources that enhance student learning.
  • Incorporates the effective use of available technology in records management and instructional activities. Upholds computer technology acceptable-use policies.
  • Helps students take full advantage of the learning environment (e.g., access and proximity to activities, use of adaptive equipment, etc.).
  • Proctors state achievement, standardized, and alternative tests as directed. Follows test security procedures. Helps students with content-area test preparation activities.
  • Maintains accurate records and submits reports on time.
  • Respects personal property. Maintains confidentiality of privileged information.
