Job Description:
This is a part-time position. An employee in this position performs work to support the Civil Service Department and staff. The position may be used as part of an internship program.
Examples of Work:
Receives training and performs duties in support of the Civil Service Department. The intern will be asked to perform, participate in, and observe activities relevant to the department. Activities include, but are not limited to, the following:
* Collaborates on various online recruitment efforts, including candidate sourcing
* Compiles relevant data on job applications, recruitment, and marketing efforts
* Assists with preparation for recruitment events
* Attends recruitment events as able
* Assists with test review, creation, and proctoring
* May collaborate on designing agency collateral
* Researches relevant social media trends for recruitment
* Maintains records in an organized manner & in accordance with rules & policies
* Coordinates and communicates with supervisor daily regarding the status of assignments
* Performs other related work as required
* Answers emails and greets people coming into the office
* Assists staff and members of the public
Application Process:
Applications are available Spring of 2026 for employment opportunities running May-August 2026. It is at the department's discretion to adjust employment beyond the designated time. The following documents are requested when applying:

* Reference letter (preferred)
Be sure to submit all the proper documents to determine eligibility; incomplete applications will be disqualified. It will be at the discretion of the department to contact applicants for interviews. You will be notified if not selected for employment.
Minimum Qualifications:
Applicants must meet one of the below criteria to be eligible
College:
* Current enrollment at an accredited college or university in business, public administration/political science, human resources, marketing, communications, or a related field.
* Strong communication skills, both written and oral. Strong listening skills and ability to follow instructions. Must be courteous and enjoy working with people.
* Competent with the use of a computer and basic comprehension of Office Suite products.
* Ability to manage multiple tasks in a busy environment.
* Must have access to reliable transportation.
* Ability to maintain flexible hours is preferred.
* The following skills are not required, but may be beneficial:
* Social media management/creation
* Canva or Adobe Creative Cloud
High School:
* Classwork or interest in the following fields: marketing, human resources, government, communications.
* Strong communication skills, both written and oral. Strong listening skills and ability to follow instructions. Must be courteous and enjoy working with people.
* Competent with the use of a computer and basic comprehension of Office Suite products.
* Ability to manage multiple tasks in a busy environment.
* Must have access to reliable transportation.
* Ability to maintain flexible hours is preferred.
Participation Requirements:
Students who are selected for the program are required to meet the minimum requirements below to remain an intern. If they fail to adhere to these standards, the student may be dismissed from the program.
* Must maintain enrollment with an accredited college or university during the internship, or be enrolled in high school, or be a recent graduate.
* Adherence to all City and department policies regarding attendance, work hours, computer usage rules, attire, conduct, confidentiality, behavior, and others as applicable.
* Timely completion of all assigned tasks and responsibilities.
* Remain professional and respectful when working with fellow employees, supervisors, and members of the public.
