Provide operational support to the Service Manager in Stroke. Undertake a range of projects and delegated duties according to the needs of the speciality. Share responsibility for managing the Stroke patient treatment list's in the 18-week RTT, follow up and PIFU (patient initiated follow up) lists. Reporting performance and taking corrective action where required. Assist in the achievement of full booking standards and waiting times.
Support in managing clinical governance, such as dealing with informal complaints. Support in the business and strategic management of the speciality including workforce planning and development. Manage delegated service budgets in line with financial instructions. Ensure staff adhere to processes and systems. Support the Service Manager in Business Planning annually. Staff are trained in all systems required to be undertaken as part of individual job roles.
Mainduties of the job
To establish and maintain accurate and robust on-call rotas and daily work timetables for the sited Consultants and Junior Doctors.
To arrange and facilitate Medical Locum cover.
To receive and process annual and study leave requests from Consultants and medical teams, taking actions as required to cover/reduce clinics if necessary.
To administer and monitor the recording of sickness, annual and study leave for medical staff, including co-ordinating return to work interviews for junior medical staff.
To assist in monitoring all locum expenditure.
To be responsible for the day-to-day line management of Stroke Medical Secretary Supervisors, TIA team, administrative team, being the first point of contact for all areas of management including performance and conduct.
To be responsible for the recruitment to vacant posts and to manage staff performance through annual appraisal and personal development plans.
To be responsible for the management of the workload of the specialty administration service, ensuring high levels of quality, turnaround times and targets.
Daily validation of all PTL's to ensure patient pathways are of good quality and comply with Access Policy standards.
Work collaboratively with the clinical tams on each site to plan activity making full use of all available capacity and developing plans to address capacity issues.

Person Specification Skills and Experience- Experience of line management or supervision of staff for a minimum of two years
- Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
- Able to use own initiative Managing complex workload with competing demands
- Well organised and able to prioritise own workload and that of others.
- Ability to work under pressure and problem solve, meeting demanding deadlines
- Ability to Resolve conflict
- Ability to set up systems and procedures to support the service
- Previous NHS Experience
- Basic understanding of NHS Terms and Conditions for Doctors and other staff.
- Able to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
- Computerised systems
- The creation and monitoring of staff rotas to cover a continuous 24-hour period.
- Educated to degree level or Diploma in management studies or equivalent professional experience.
- Ability to lead a team
- Shows empathy and sensitivity.
- Drive for improvement to patient experience
- Friendly, professional approachable and forward thinking.
- Listens and shows a problem solving approach to their work.
