Position: Healthy Active Learning Advisor

As a Healthy Active Learning Advisor, you will support primary schools across South Canterbury to improve access to quality physical activity and healthy food environments. Based in Timaru, this role blends curriculum facilitation with community engagement, offering variety and purpose. You will work directly with school leaders, kaiako and community partners to enhance wellbeing through evidence-based, sustainable change. Reporting to the regional lead, you’ll join a team focused on building the capability of schools and teachers.

Key responsibilities

  • Facilitate strategic planning with school leaders to lift physical activity and wellbeing outcomes
  • Deliver tailored professional development for kaiako and kaimahi
  • Build strong relationships with stakeholders across schools and the wider sector
  • Support curriculum-aligned delivery that reflects equity, inclusivity, and Te Tiriti o Waitangi
  • Monitor and evaluate progress across a portfolio of schools, identifying opportunities for deeper impact.

About you

  • Relevant tertiary qualification, ideally a teaching qualification.
  • Deep knowledge of the NZ Curriculum and/or Te Marautanga o Aotearoa, especially the Health & Physical Education and Hauora curriculums.
  • Experience leading professional learning and driving change in educational settings
  • Strong understanding of pedagogy and programme development
  • Skilled in relationship-building and engaging diverse stakeholders, including principals and community groups
  • Knowledge of primary/intermediate school operations and how education and sport sectors intersect
  • Confident communicator with excellent written and verbal skills
  • A good understanding of te reo me tikanga Māori
  • Empathy, adaptability, and the ability to self-manage in a flexible working environment
