Hillmorton High School is a diverse urban coeducational school situated in the South-West of Christchurch. The school is a fast-growing Year 7–13 school with dedicated middle and senior schools. We have a roll of around 1400 and with further building works underway, the roll is expected to increase in the next few years. We provide students with a caring and supportive environment, to help them achieve academic excellence, leadership skills and a love of learning.

We are seeking an experienced Year 7 teacher to join our middle school team for a parental leave position.

This role is based in a collaborative teaching space. We are looking for a great team member who is highly skilled in co‑teaching strategies. These include station teaching, parallel teaching, and team teaching to provide a seamless and supportive learning journey for our Year 7 students.

Person requirements:

  • Collaborative expertise:
    Proven ability to thrive in a shared teaching environment. This includes shared planning and collective responsibility for student outcomes.
  • Literacy:
    Strong experience in structured literacy is highly preferred to support foundational learning.
  • Pedagogy: A deep commitment to culturally responsive and relational practices is essential.
  • Teamwork:
    You must be an adaptable communicator who values professional feedback and shared reflection.

A commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and the understanding and ability to teach using culturally responsive and relational pedagogy is essential.

The successful applicant must be a NZ registered teacher and be willing to commit to our co-curricular programme also.
