Independent Visitor required for befriending/mentoring support for a young person in care in the Canterbury Area.

Detailed Description

Independent Visitors (IVs) support a young person in care, who may be living with foster carers or in a residential placement. We are looking for a volunteer to work with a young person based in the Canterbury area. As an Independent Visitor you will meet the young person once a month for a couple of hours, engaging in activities such as lunch, walks, cinema or bowling.

In return you will receive training to develop your personal skills and gain valuable experience. All out‑of‑pocket travel and expenses are reimbursed.

Why these skills are required

Male volunteers are needed, you should be able to commit to at least two years, thereby ensuring long‑term consistency for the young person. You must be able to spare at least 2 hours per month for visits. Activities will be decided jointly with the young person. Other desirable qualities include sense of humour, patience, understanding, non‑judgemental attitude, reliability, and any relevant education or training in child‑related areas.
