Credit Analyst is responsible for evaluating the financial health of individuals and businesses applying for credit with the bank. This role involves conducting financial analysis, assessing credit risk, and providing recommendations to support sound lending decisions. Reporting to the Director of Credit Administration, the Credit Analyst plays a key role in maintaining the bank’s credit quality and ensuring compliance with internal policies and regulatory requirements.
The ideal candidate has a strong background in financial analysis, risk assessment, and industry trends, with the ability to provide data‑driven recommendations to support the bank’s lending objectives.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Credit Analysis & Underwriting
- Analyze financial statements, tax returns, cash flow statements, and credit reports to assess borrower creditworthiness.
- Perform risk assessments on loan applications for commercial, small business, agricultural, and consumer loans, and assign credit ratings to borrowers, indicating their level of risk.
- Evaluate debt service coverage ratios, collateral, and overall repayment capacity.
- Prepare written credit memorandums with recommendations for loan approval, modification, or denial.
- Ensure that all credit analyses align with the bank’s lending policies and regulatory guidelines.
- Monitor and evaluate existing loan portfolios for credit deterioration and emerging risks.
- Assist in maintaining compliance with banking regulations, loan policies, and internal credit procedures.
- Identify trends in credit risk and provide recommendations for improving underwriting practices.
- Assist in preparing the commercial loan portfolio for loan reviews and assist auditors and examiners while they are onsite and with follow‑up questions.
- Identify and proactively address potential problem loans by recognizing early warning signs, proposing remedial actions, and assisting in the restructuring or workout process.
- Monitor the ongoing performance of loans in the portfolio, including conducting periodic reviews, analyzing financial statements, and assessing any changes in borrowers’ creditworthiness.
- Work closely with loan officers, relationship managers, and senior leadership to structure loans appropriately.
- Present credit findings and recommendations to loan committees and senior management.
- Assist in preparing reports and summaries for regulatory reviews and internal audits.
- Prepare and maintain accurate credit files, loan documentation, and reports to support credit decisions and regulatory requirements.
- Prepare all financial documents needed for annual reviews and accurately perform annual reviews.
- Conduct market research to assess economic conditions, industry trends, and their impact on borrower credit profiles.
- Stay updated on changes in financial regulations and lending best practices.
- Participate in loan underwriting, including credit proposals and loan applications to support loan approval or denial decisions.
- Maintain due diligence when conducting background checks, credit history, legal documentation verification, and collateral valuation.

Work ExperienceQualifications:
Minimum of 3 years of experience strongly preferred in credit analysis, financial statement analysis, or commercial lending within a bank or financial institution.
Preferred Skills andQualifications:
- Strong understanding of financial statements, accounting principles, and cash flow analysis.
- Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills.
- Proficiency in financial modeling, credit software, and Microsoft Excel.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, business administration, economics, or a related field.
