SUMMARY
The Quality Inspector I is responsible for performing visual inspections of printed circuit boards (PCBs) and box‑build electronic and electrical assemblies to ensure compliance with internal quality standards and customer specifications. This role supports production quality through accurate inspection, documentation, and communication of findings.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- The essential functions of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Perform visual inspections of electronic components, subassemblies, and finished assemblies in accordance with IPC‑A‑610 workmanship standards using inspection tools such as Automated Optical Inspection (AOI) systems, magnification lamps, microscopes, and other appropriate equipment.
- Follow established quality policies, procedures, and work instructions to ensure consistent compliance.
- Verify products against customer specifications, drawings, and documentation under appropriate supervision.
- Conduct Surface Mount Technology (SMT), Through‑Hole, and rework inspections to ensure adherence to defined quality standards.
- Accurately document inspection results in Factory Logix and/or daily inspection records.
- Communicate identified defects or quality concerns to production and quality team members to support timely corrective action.
- Participate in continuous improvement and Lean initiatives.
- Attend daily team meetings and collaborate with cross‑functional teams to address quality‑related issues.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment in accordance with company policies.
- Adapt to changing business needs and assist with problem‑solving activities as required.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Ability to read, understand, and follow written work instructions, quality standards, and safety documentation.
- Basic arithmetic skills, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
- Ability to accurately record data and perform basic data entry.
- Ability to interpret visual information such as charts, graphs, and inspection reports.
- Demonstrated attention to detail and ability to assess product quality against written standards.
Preferred Qualifications
- One (1) year of experience in electronics manufacturing, inspection, or a related production environment.
- Familiarity with SMT and Through‑Hole assembly processes.
- Prior experience working with quality systems, inspection documentation, or manufacturing execution systems.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Basic knowledge of electronic components, PCBs, and electronic/electrical assemblies
- Familiarity with IPC‑A‑610 workmanship standards
- Understanding of basic inspection tools and quality documentation
- Performs visual inspections using AOI, magnification tools, and microscopes
- Accurately records inspection results under established procedures
- Communicates defects and quality concerns to supervisors or team members
- Ability to follow standardized procedures and apply written quality criteria
- Ability to maintain attention to detail during repetitive inspection tasks
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment
CERTIFICATIONS
- Completion of the Milwaukee Electronics Component Identification course within one (1) year of employment.
- Ability to successfully complete the IPC‑A‑610 certification (current revision) within one (1) year of employment.
