The Role
Reporting to the Electrical Lead, the Electrician is a key team member at our team at the Hardisty Terminal, who provides technical expertise and guidance with respect to the maintenance, repair, and rebuilding of all electrical equipment.
This position follows a 9/80 work schedule which means your standard hours will be 80 hours over a two-week period, compressed into 9-hour work days;
Week 1 Monday to Friday and Week 2 Monday to Thursday with every second Friday off.
What You'll Do
- Perform preventative and corrective maintenance tasks as assigned in a timely and efficient manner.
- Responsible for commissioning of new equipment in the Hardisty area.
- Supervise contract workers when needed for construction or maintenance of area facilities.
- Assist in the design of area facilities.
- Produce estimates for the material and installation costs of area facilities.
- Collaborate with consultants when and as necessary for the completion of various projects.
- Expedite the purchase and delivery of materials needed for maintenance or projects.
- Code invoices for maintenance and projects.
- Ensure that all of the preventative maintenance schedules are adhered to.
- Communicate with operations personnel with respect to maintenance or changes to area equipment (including SCADA Controls).
- Responsible for troubleshooting problems related to electrical controls, motors, VFD’s and PLC’s.
- Maintains documents related to the Electrical field, such as JHA’s, MWI’s, and Job Plans.
- Reads and as-build prints during projects such as electrical, P&’s, shutdown keys, MOV Matrices.
- Demonstrates a personal commitment and proactive approach to Environment, Health & Safety (EH&S) through participation in all applicable EH&S programs and ensures safe operation of the branch, team or unit and compliance with all Company EH&S policies and procedures.
- May perform other duties as assigned.
What You'll Bring to the Role
- Inter-provincial Journeyman Electricians Certificate.
- Minimum of 5+ years of hands on facility construction and maintenance.
- Possession of the required safety certificates of the industry: H2S, WHMIS, First Aid, etc.
- Demonstrates proficiency in the use of business software, Excel, Microsoft Word, etc.
- Have an in depth understanding of electrical safety codes.
- Ability to effectively analyze data used in the troubleshooting of area equipment in order to maintain their operation within an acceptable margin of error.
- Ability to express ideas clearly, both in written and oral communications.
- Ability to complete projects on time, while at the same time, accommodate existing Operations (minimum interruption to existing facility operations).
- Exhibits advanced knowledge of relevant technological improvements.
- Maintain a scheduled plan for the preventative maintenance of electrical equipment.
- Appreciation of the service role of the Technical Services Group when dealing with Operations personnel.
- Self motivated team player able to work well under pressure.
Working Conditions
This role is located in Hardisty, Alberta.
Must be able to walk on uneven surfaces as well as climb ladders and stairs.
- Standing for frequent periods and sitting occasionally, including driving.
- Occasional bending and twisting is required as is prolonged neck positioning.
- Lower extremity movements – kneeling, crouching and squatting.
- Frequent upper extremity movements (elbows, forearm, wrist, handgrip), with some above shoulder work.
- Lifting up to 50lbs.
- Carrying up to 50lbs, pushing up to 30lbs.
