About the Opportunity
As a member of the British Columbia based Mount Milligan Exploration team, the Lead Exploration Geologist will be responsible for assessing lithology, alteration, mineralization, and structure in drill core from a silica-saturated alkalic Cu-Au porphyry deposit and accurately entering this data into an ac Quire database. They will be required to utilize Leapfrog software to complete drill hole summaries and generate geological interpretations on paper cross sections.
The Lead Exploration Geologist will also provide training and technical support for other core loggers, assist with the management of up to three diamond drills, as well as completion of field tasks including drill line ups, drill shutdowns, rig inspections, surface sampling, and collar staking and surveying. This may include filling an “Acting Supervisor” role as needed.
This role is a permanent full time position, approximately 155 kilometers Northwest of Prince George, British Columbia. The work schedule is 14 days on, 14 days off, 12-hour Shifts.
Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
Assessing lithology, alteration, mineralization, and structure in drill core from a silica-saturated alkalic Cu-Au porphyry depositResponsible for the accuracy and input of drill core data into an ac Quire database and field data into an Arc Pro projectManagement of up to three diamond drill rigs which includes ensuring the safety of the drill sites and drill contractors, pre, during, and post, site visits, line ups, and shutdownsProviding training, mentorship and technical support for other core loggersSupporting the Exploration Supervisor in their duties and responsibilities (drill/personnel oversight, reporting, etc.) and filling “Acting Supervisor” role as neededUtilizing Leapfrog Central and Leapfrog Geo to view deposit and drill hole dataGenerate paper cross sections of logged drill holesWrite end of hole summaries for logged drill holesConduct systematic pXRF and Terraspec sampling of select drill holesField work such as flagging access trails, collar surveys/staking, rock grab sampling, mapping, and soil sampling as requiredLiaison with the contract drill team dailyConducting daily drill site inspections and weekly workplace inspections as requiredWorking in conjunction with all exploration staff to process core efficientlyTechnical geological desktop studies and report writing as requiredMay include planning, implementation, and oversight of early-stage exploration programs (field work, geophysics, drilling, etc.)Participate in daily toolbox meetings and weekly safety meetingsMoving core from processing and logging facilities to storage areasAssist with the organization of pulp samples into storage facilities as neededGeneral housekeeping/cleaning inside/outside core shack as requiredAdhere to all mine safety regulations and site policiesAbout You
The following will be critical to successfully perform this role:
