Our client, a well-established and respected insurer, is seeking an Executive Underwriter to join their team. This role is responsible for underwriting and servicing highly complex and specialized portfolios while ensuring strong underwriting discipline, data quality, and service standards.
The Executive Underwriter will apply deep technical expertise to solve complex underwriting challenges, structure innovative coverage solutions, and support profitable growth. This position also plays a key leadership role within the underwriting team, providing mentorship, training, and technical guidance to underwriting staff across the region.
Key Responsibilities- Underwrite and manage complex commercial property & casualty accounts in alignment with underwriting guidelines and profitability objectives
- Analyze risks and develop tailored underwriting solutions for unique and challenging exposures
- Maintain high standards for data quality, service levels, and underwriting excellence
- Support business development efforts through strong sales, negotiation, and relationship management skills
- Provide technical mentorship and training to underwriting staff within the region
- Promote underwriting best practices and ensure guidelines and procedures are consistently applied
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to drive profitable growth and strengthen market presence
- Post-secondary education and/or equivalent industry experience
- CIP or FCIP designation (or working toward completion)
- Minimum 10 years of experience in the Property & Casualty insurance industry
- Strong understanding of underwriting philosophy, policy wordings, rating programs, and risk assessment
- Knowledge of regulatory requirements and underwriting technical resources
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and PC-based workflow systems
- Excellent analytical, negotiation, and communication skills
