Position: PT Overnight Awake

Location: 26 Rockview

Hours: Saturday 8:00 PM – 8:30 AM and Sunday 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM

Wages: Starting at $19.54

Overview: Aptus has specialized in supporting people with complex needs since 1979, including those with dual diagnosis mental health disorders. The organization has a comprehensive clinical team, including Occupational Therapy, Recreation Therapy and Behaviour Services.

WHAT YOU WILL DO – ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Establish respectful relationships with people we support, recognizing their rights as citizens and promoting dignity and well-being.
  • Support individuals to develop decision-making skills, exercise choices, and assume responsibilities and reasonable risks. Involve individuals and their advocate in decision-making.
  • Develop and/or implement support plans to achieve personal outcomes using Personal Outcome Measures.
  • Protect and honour the rights of people with disabilities.
  • Ensure a safe and clean home environment for people served.
  • Build positive rapport and serve as a role model to create a safe and caring environment.
  • Teach skills that increase independence (e.g., eating, cooking, bathing).
  • Assist in finding and participating in meaningful community activities.

This position requires providing support for a wide range of complex needs, including behavioural supports, medical supports, and personal care. Flexibility in work hours and schedules to meet organizational needs is required. Daytime and occasional evening and weekend availability is expected.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED (QUALIFICATIONS)
  • DSW or equivalent, preferably with at least two years’ experience with people who have an intellectual disability
  • Ability to support behavioural needs and protocols
  • Experience supporting people with mental health diagnoses and dealing with high anxiety situations
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to follow and create Support Plans
  • Ability to relate to the specific support needs of people at the assigned location
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to maintain accurate documentation and some experience with scheduling
  • Current First Aid, CPR and Non-violent Crisis Intervention certificates
  • Valid driver’s license (G or G2)
