LOCATION: 1349 County Home Road, Waterville, Nova Scotia.

CLASSIFICATION: Occupational Therapist (OT) 1 Permanent Full-Time (75.00 Hours Bi-weekly)

POSITION SCOPE:

Located in the beautiful Annapolis Valley, CORE Support Services supports youth and adults with intellectual, physical, behavioral, psychological, and/or psychiatric disabilities.

Responsible to the Director of Clinical Services and a member of CORE’s robust interdisciplinary clinical team, the Occupational Therapist provides consultation services to diverse clients of CORE Support Services and its Community Options Program.

Operating within the full scope of the profession of Occupational Therapy, the Occupational Therapist provides services in the areas of access, activities of daily living, assistive technology and devices, sensory processing, positive behaviour supports, and equipment prescription in accordance with the goals, mission, and values of CORE Support Services.

The position works within an interprofessional team to support individualized program plans to enhance clients’ independence, socialization, health, daily living skills, and learning, and works collaboratively to prioritize referrals on a dynamic and varied clinical caseload. Supervision of an OTA/PTA and students completing practicums at CORE is an expectation of the role as is providing training and education to CORE employees, partner organizations, and clients.

This role works Monday-Friday and offers a unique and exciting opportunity to support clients who will be transitioning from facility-based living to smaller residences and the expansion of CORE’s existing Community Options Program. The Occupational Therapists play an integral role in the Cambridge Community Outreach Group (CCOG), which will likely have expanded responsibilities in the Western Region as part of the soon-to-be created Disability Support Outreach Teams.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Complete Occupational Therapy assessments and interventions to improve clients’ functioning and maximize participation in accordance with individual client will and preferences.
  • Work within an interprofessional team to support individualized program plans to enhance clients’ independence, socialization, health, daily living skills, and learning.
  • Collaboratively prioritize referrals on a dynamic and varied clinical caseload.
  • Support organization-wide initiatives to advance proactive health and wellness strategies.
  • Provide training and education for clients and staff.
  • Participate in Quality Improvement initiatives and committee work.
  • Complete written and statistical reports and other documentation as required.
  • Maintain and promote good working relationships within CORE and with external organizations.
  • Participate in professional development based on identified learning objectives.
  • Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS

Master of Science in Occupational Therapy or Bachelor of Science in Occupational Therapy. Registration (eligibility) with the College of Occupational Therapy of Nova Scotia. Applications from new grads welcome. Clinical experience as an OT an asset, e.g., working with individuals with disabilities to reduce barriers in residential and community settings; providing individual consultation and assessment; knowledge regarding Positive Behaviour Support plans, equipment prescription, postural assessment, skincare needs, etc.

Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills. Ability to impart knowledge and develop the potential in others. Demonstrated commitment to the organization’s strategic direction and to the principles of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD) and the Remedy.

Commitment to ethical and evidence‑based practices. Evidence of exemplary attendance, punctuality, and work practices. Commitment to uphold confidentiality and keep in confidence all matters concerning Core Support Services, its clients and employees. Experience delivering educational presentations and participating in quality improvement initiatives an asset.

Strong computer skills including proficiency in Outlook, Word, Excel, Zoom, and Microsoft Teams. Access to a reliable vehicle and willingness to travel. Required to provide Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Check and Child Abuse Register Check.
