Registered Psychiatric Nurse – Regional Police and Crisis Team (RPACT)
Alberta Health Services (AHS) in partnership with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) seeks a Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN) to provide clinical assessment, crisis intervention and mental health consultation in an outreach setting. The role is clinical in nature and supports multidisciplinary teams in public safety contexts.
OverviewThe RPN collaborates with RCMP officers to respond to mental health crises, facilitate outreach, and deliver evidence‑based care to individuals presenting with public safety concerns, addiction, homelessness risk and other vulnerable circumstances. The position is based in Peace River Mental Health and works local RCMP detachment teams under the direction of a zone clinical supervisor and the RPACT leadership team.
Responsibilities- Conduct rapid mental health assessment, crisis intervention and de‑briefing in partnership with RCMP officers.
- Provide specialized psychiatric nursing services, including medication management, addiction and suicide risk assessment, and development of stabilization plans.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary team members, community agencies and law enforcement to coordinate care and monitor outcomes.
- Advocate on behalf of patients, families and community partners to promote safety, well‑being and reintegration.
- Maintain accurate documentation, reporting and compliance with provincial legislation and AHS policies.
- Completion of an accredited psychiatric nursing education program.
- Active registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Alberta (CRPNA).
- Current Basic Cardiac Life Support – Health Care Provider (BCLS‑HCP) certification.
- Minimum 4 years of relevant mental health experience, including at least 2 years of direct crisis experience in a community setting.
- Experience working within a multidisciplinary team, community agencies and diverse populations.
- Comprehensive knowledge of the Alberta Mental Health Act, co‑existing medical and mental illnesses, and psychiatric medication management.
- High level of interpersonal skills, ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, and proficiency in computer and word processing skills.
- Proficiency in crisis assessment, stabilization, addiction and suicide risk assessment and establishing provisional diagnosis independently.
- Preferred:
Experience with forensic populations, single‑session supportive counselling and knowledge of community resources and agencies.
- Minimum $43.26 per hour, maximum $59.21 per hour.
- Remote Retention Allowance up to $3,000 annually (non‑pensionable, hourly basis).
- Full‑time, regular employment with AHS benefits and a 9.75 hour shift schedule (2‑week shift pattern days and evenings).
