We’re currently hiring a US Cross-Border Tax Manager on behalf of a specialized tax advisory firm known for its expertise in complex US individual taxation, expatriation, and cross-border planning. This role is ideal for an experienced US tax professional who wants exposure to high-complexity work and direct collaboration with senior CPAs, EAs, and tax lawyers.

About the Opportunity
As a Cross-Border Tax Manager, you will lead the review of complex US individual tax filings, manage cross-border compliance, and support planning engagements involving multi-jurisdictional issues. You will work closely with both US and Canadian tax specialists on matters involving residency, treaty positions, foreign reporting, and expatriation. This role suits someone who enjoys technical depth, problem-solving, and guiding a team through complex tax requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review US individual tax returns (1040, 1040- related schedules)
  • Review foreign reporting forms (FBAR, 8938, 5471, 3520/3520-A, 8621, etc.)
  • Support cross-border planning for residency changes, expatriation, and treaty-based positions
  • Conduct tax research and prepare memos, planning documents, and technical summaries
  • Identify planning opportunities and contribute to advisory work
  • Collaborate with Canadian CPAs and tax lawyers on cross-border cases
  • Respond to IRS and CRA inquiries and support resolution of assessments
  • Manage client relationships and ensure timely delivery of engagements
  • Mentor and review the work of junior and intermediate cross-border staff
  • The Requirements

  • 1+ years of US or cross-border individual tax experience (minimum for consideration)
  • Strong knowledge of US Form 1040 and related US compliance requirements
  • Experience with US foreign reporting filings
  • US CPA, Canadian CPA, or Enrolled Agent (EA) preferred
  • Strong technical research and writing skills
  • Excellent communication and client service abilities
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines and complex workflows
