We are seeking experienced Shift Leads/Control Room Operators to lead our Lloydminster Thermal Business Unit plant operations. This role is responsible for operating the DCS system to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the plant, optimizing production, and ensuring all processes remain within specifications. Reporting to the Chief Power Engineer. the Shift Lead/CRO mentors and develops operators, maintains a full working knowledge of safety procedures and plant operations, and identifies opportunities to improve work routines without compromising safety or product quality.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure compliance with all Health, Safety, Environment (HSE) and regulatory requirements while promoting a strong safety culture.

  • Lead and support shift operations to maintain safe, efficient, and reliable plant performance.

  • Communicate effectively with Operations, Maintenance, Production, Engineering, HSER, and supervisory teams.

  • Direct and coordinate maintenance activities in accordance with company procedures and work standards.

  • Monitor, control, and troubleshoot plant conditions; maintain accurate logs, permits, FLHAs, and safety documentation.

  • Provide leadership during emergency, upset, and maintenance situations, including participation in ERP drills.

  • Coach, train, and develop team members while fostering a professional, collaborative work environment.

  • Maintain operational documentation, including logbooks, procedures, work orders, and MOCs; identify and report deficiencies.

  • Review, revise, and develop operating procedures and recommend improvements to current practices.

  • Demonstrate flexibility by cross-training across operating roles and maintaining competency per the Operator Progression Matrix.

  • Support incident reporting, hazard identification, and HSE participation goals.

  • Build respectful working relationships and support management decisions through open and honest communication.

  • Qualifications:

  • Minimum 7 years SAGD operating experience (Steam Generation, Water Treatment, Oil Treating, De-Oiling).

  • 2nd Class Power Engineering Certificate; consideration for 3rd Class Power Engineering Certificate with substantial progression towards a 2nd Class certificate.

  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to effectively develop and manage a team.

  • Excellent communication skills with both internal and external stakeholders.

  • Familiarity with Rockwell DCS is an asset.

  • Strong mechanical aptitude, problem-solving, and organizational skills.

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and able to interpret facility drawings.

  • An understanding of Once Thru Steam Generators, Water Treatment processes SAGD Wells, Natural Gas Compressors and Utilities Systems (glycol heaters and air compressors)

  • Work Environment:

  • 12-hour shift schedule on a 7-days-on/ 7-days-off rotation, alternating between day and night shifts. This includes coverage on weekends, holidays, and as needed to support plant operations.

  • Position based in a plant setting.

  • Candidate must reside in or be willing to relocate to the North Battleford area.

  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license with a clean driver’s abstract required.
