Job Description

The Accounting Clerk, Cash Receipting is focused on timely reporting for all incoming cashflow into the County. They are responsible for reviewing, correcting and approving all incoming payment batches. This position is also an imperative part of our customer service and account/tax receivable teams and offers various support as needed to ensure excellent customer service. This is a temporary position, lasting until October 30, 2026.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Review and approve all cash batches.
  • Ensure adequate coverage for front-end and support to other departments, including lunch hour.
  • Perform General Ledger updates and maintenance in our two accounting systems (Unit4 and Tempest).
  • Reconcile, balance and enter data into multiple accounting systems.
  • Administer, balance and replenish cash floats.
  • Daily support of our Customer Service team, including greeting customers, taking payments, balancing and preparing bank deposits and addressing general inquiries both in person and over the phone.
  • Notify/alert appropriate staff of unusual, sensitive or emergency situations.
  • Daily support to the account receivable team in processing invoices and collection of accounts.
  • Support the tax clerks as needed, including tax certificates, tax notice generation, mail outs and other tasks as needed.
  • Filing and records management.
  • Provide month-end and year-end support, including account reconciliation.
  • Support with mail and internal mail distributions.
  • Cross-train to provide coverage of other departments.
  • Year end audit support.
Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • Post-secondary diploma or degree in Business or Accounting/Finance, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience with full cycle accounting.
  • Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Office 365.
  • Experience with cash receipting and data entry.
  • Experience working for a Municipality will be considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of accepted accounting rules, practices, tax laws, and reporting requirements.

  • Ability to work as part of a team, cross-train and remain flexible within a changing work environment.
  • High degree of discretion, sound judgement and professionalism.
  • Adaptable and able to learn new software.
Additional Information

Term Duration: This is a full-time, temporary position lasting until October 30, 2026.

Working Hours: This position entails a 35-hour work week. Monday to Friday, from 8:30 to 4:30 with some overtime as required to meet operational needs.

Hourly Pay: $39.40 to $46.35

Closing Date: This position will close January 22, 2026.
