The Heavy Equipment Technician is responsible for the inspection, maintenance, and repair of trucks, trailers and construction equipment. This role keeps our fleet operating safely and reliably throughout the construction season. Work is primarily shop based with field support when needed.

Job Responsibilities

  • Perform inspections, maintenance, troubleshooting and repairs of truck, trailer combinations and various off road equipment including compaction equipment, dozers, excavators, graders, loaders and paving equipment
  • Diagnose and repair electrical, hydraulic and mechanical systems
  • Complete preventative maintenance, planned repairs and emergency breakdown repairs
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and required documentation
  • Operate a service truck in the field when required, including occasional overnight travel
  • Perform work in a safe, timely and efficient manner
  • Work overtime and weekends during the construction season as required

Qualifications

  • Alberta HET certification or minimum 3rd year apprentice or out of province HET certification with Interprovincial Red Seal
  • Own tools required
  • Strong diagnostic ability in electrical, hydraulic and mechanical systems
  • Basic welding knowledge and skills (welding certification considered an asset)
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's License with clean abstract (Valid Class 1 License is an asset)
  • CVIP certification considered an asset
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving ability
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
  • Physically capable of working in a demanding shop and field environments
