We are actively seeking a Estimator to join a confidential underground utility construction company that’s known for delivering critical infrastructure with a safety‑first mindset and a true ownership culture.
About the RoleIn this role, you’ll drive accurate, competitive bids for wet and dry utility work, partnering closely with field and leadership teams to win work and protect margins through smart planning, sharp cost analysis, and thoughtful risk review.
Responsibilities- Build competitive estimates for underground utility and civil projects, with a strong focus on wet and dry utilities.
- Break down plans, specs, scopes, and technical requirements into clear takeoffs, pricing, and proposal strategies.
- Prepare and support RFIs, submittals, and schedule inputs to strengthen bid quality and reduce surprises after award.
- Price excavation and shoring needs accurately by aligning estimates with contract requirements and real field conditions.
- Develop cost models that account for safety rules, environmental considerations, and permitting obligations at the local, state, and federal level.
- Validate labor and material pricing for the region and assemble bid inputs (crews, equipment, materials, subcontractors, and more).
- Use estimating platforms (HCSS, Bid2
Win, Hard Dollar) and scheduling tools (Excel, MS Project, Primavera) to produce clean, review‑ready bid packages and reports. - Solicit, level, and integrate subcontractor proposals; communicate scopes, expectations, and timelines with clarity.
- Represent the team professionally with clients and agencies, including pre‑bid meetings and job walks.
- Flag risk early by evaluating scope gaps, schedule pressure points, and cost uncertainty, then communicate recommendations during bid reviews.
- 4-year degree or comparable hands‑on experience that translates to strong estimating judgment.
- Experience estimating civil, utility, and/or wet/dry projects, with underground construction experience (water, sewer, storm drain, and dry utilities) required.
- Public works or municipal bidding experience required.
- Working knowledge of estimating software (HCSS, Bid2
Win, Hard Dollar or similar) and comfort producing schedules in Excel, MS Project, and/or Primavera. - Valid driver’s license in good standing and ability to operate a company vehicle (must be at least 18).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, detail focus, and a proactive, coachable working style.
- Ability to complete construction math, quantities, and measurement‑based takeoffs accurately.
- Organized planning habits and the ability to juggle multiple bids and priorities without losing accuracy.
- Strong support for doing things the right way, including a safety‑forward approach and thoughtful compliance planning.

Salary Range: $128,600/year – $182,200/year
