The City of Campbell River is seeking a dynamic, creative, community-driven Culture and Events Specialist for a permanent full-time position in our Recreation & Culture Department.

Located on Vancouver Island, the City of Campbell River offers a rare combination of a welcoming small-town feel with large‑city amenities. We are a 45‑minute drive from the winter and summer activities of Mount Washington, and just minutes from more than 100 km of all levels of mountain biking and hiking trails, plus easy access to the ocean, rivers and lakes for sports fishing, kayaking, paddle boarding and whale watching.

The role: The Culture and Events Specialist plays a dynamic, community‑shaping role—bringing Campbell River’s arts, culture, and music scene to life. This role leads the creation and delivery of engaging and vibrant events and authentic cultural programming that showcase local talent, build strong community connections, and enhance the city’s overall vibrancy and livability. Success in this position is rooted in relationship building.

Through collaboration and strategic advocacy with arts and culture organizations, community partners, and other interested parties, this role will help align diverse arts and cultural initiatives with the City’s long‑term vision and objectives. What we offer: The rate of pay for this permanent full-time, CUPE bargaining unit position is $44.39 per hour, based on a 35‑hour work week. We offer a comprehensive benefits package, which includes 3 weeks paid vacation, extended health and dental coverage, a defined pension plan, life insurance, and short‑term disability coverage. This position is eligible for flexible work arrangements which may include one of the following: compressed work week, earned day off or varied hours.

Our ideal candidate will have:

• Degree in Arts and Culture Management, Events Management, Cultural Planning, Recreation and Community Engagement, or a related field combined with an assessable combination of training and related experience.
• Event management or project management training.
• Five (5) years related experience in special event management, including the planning and coordination of outdoor events, live music, or festival‑style programming, within the last seven (7) years.
• Two (2) years’ related experience working collaboratively with the arts and culture community in developing and delivering arts and cultural programs, events and initiatives, including building and maintaining partnerships with community organizations within last seven (7) years.
• One (1) year supervisory experience within the last five (5) years.
• A valid Class 5 driver’s license and must produce and maintain a clean driver’s abstract, as per City policy.
• Must possess and maintain a criminal record and vulnerable sectors check prior to the start of employment.
