Job Title: Instrumental Director

Location: WSCA and WSCA HS Campus

Status: Full-Time, Salaried

Reports To: School Principals

Job Summary:

As the Instrumental Director, you will oversee and lead the instrumental side of the music department.

Your role includes designing and delivering engaging music lessons, nurturing students' musical abilities, developing an appreciation for the arts, and fostering the physical, emotional, intellectual, social, and spiritual growth of the student, providing spiritual leadership to the students entrusted in your care and integrating biblical principles while exceeding academic standards into curriculum. Your key role is to teach elementary through high school band and collaborating with the Music Teacher to plan and execute successful winter and spring programs for the school.

Key Responsibilities:

Music Curriculum Development:
  • Develop and deliver age-appropriate music lesson plans and teaching materials that align with music curriculum standards.
  • Customize instruction to accommodate diverse learning styles and abilities within various school grade levels.
  • Teach students about music theory, instruments, and various musical genres.
  • Integrate biblical principles and the Christian philosophy of education throughout the curriculum and activities.
  • Plan, prepare, and deliver lesson plans and instructional materials that facilitated active learning.
  • Use relevant technology to support and differentiate instruction.
Classroom Management:
  • Establish and maintain an engaging and respectful music classroom environment that encourages creative expression.
  • Implement effective behavior management strategies and promote positive engagement with music.
  • Encourage students to participate in musical activities and performances.
Musical Skill Development:
  • Provide opportunities for students to explore and develop their musical abilities through singing, playing instruments, and music composition.
  • Foster creativity, teamwork, and problem-solving skills through musical activities.
  • Encourage students to express themselves and develop a passion for music.
  • Lead the secondary student-led worship team and encourage involvement.
Assessment and Progress Monitoring:
  • Regularly assess students' musical progress through various methods, including performances, assignments, and class participation.
  • Prepare students for later grades by encouraging them to explore learning opportunities and persevere with challenging tasks.
  • Maintain accurate records of student performance and communicate results to parents and guardians.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and school administrators to review and analyze musical achievements.
  • Advise parents or legal guardians of student progress to communicate expectations and student achievements, develop improvement methods, and reinforce classroom goals in the home environment.
Music Appreciation:
  • Cultivate an appreciation for music, music history, and diverse musical traditions.
  • Organize musical events, concerts, and performances to showcase students' musical talents.
  • Encourage students to explore and appreciate a wide range of musical genres and styles.
  • Encourage parent and community involvement in performances and other events.
Professional Development:
  • Stay current with music education trends, teaching methodologies, and advancements in the field.
  • Attend professional development sessions, workshops, and conferences as necessary.
  • Collaborate with fellow educators to share best practices in music education.
  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Requirements

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Music Education, or a related field, required.
  • Appropriate state teaching certification or licensure, or willingness to obtain, required.
  • Previous experience in teaching, with a focus on music education preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of music curriculum standards and effective teaching practices.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
