Overview

The organization seeks an Advanced Practice Provider (APP) for full-time care of patients with neurological disease, including Alzheimer's disease and other cognitive & behavioral neurology diagnoses. This APP role operates in a team-based setting as part of the South Carolina Alzheimer’s Network (SCAN), a multi-site clinical program designed to provide early and accurate diagnoses, treatment planning, longitudinal co-management with primary care, access to new Alzheimer’s medications, and access to the latest research.

Job Description

Job Summary /

Purpose:

The successful applicant will be an Advanced Practice Provider working full-time in the care of patients with neurological disease, primarily those with Alzheimer’s Disease or other cognitive and behavioral neurology diagnoses, within SCAN. This role emphasizes team-based care, collaboration with primary care and other clinicians, access to the latest research and medicines, and opportunity to contribute to program goals.

Fair Labor Standards Act Status:
Salaried/Exempt. Hours per week: 40. Scheduled Work Hours/Shift: Monday – Friday, 8AM – 5PM or 8:30AM – 5:30PM, with clinic blocks across multiple sessions per week. Patient Population Focus:
Outpatient. Patient Population Age Range: 18 years through death.

Responsibilities
  • Provide direct patient care including taking comprehensive history and performing physical examinations.
  • Evaluate and treat based on history, exam findings, radiological and laboratory results, and other diagnostics per scope of practice.
  • Assess, diagnose, and manage outpatients with neurological symptoms, primarily Alzheimer's disease or other cognitive & behavioral neurological disorders; recognize status changes and intervene as appropriate; implement risk-minimizing measures.
  • Initiate referrals to other health care providers and consult with the attending or collaborating physician.
  • Document and bill for direct care provided; apply current research and evidence-based decision-making in clinical practice.
  • Participate in quality/performance improvement activities and clinical research; support accreditation, compliance, and regulatory processes.
  • Demonstrate professional practice through involvement in professional organizations and continuing education.
  • Potential to precept MUSC advanced practice provider students and facilitate learning of new team members.
  • Maintain licenses, certifications, and continuing education requirements as required by policy and state law.
Qualifications
  • Required Training and

    Experience:

    Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program and current licensure or eligibility as a Physician Assistant in South Carolina, or completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program with licensure or eligibility as an APRN (as applicable). Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) is required.
  • Physician Assistant or APRN Licensure/Certification:
    Currently licensed (or eligible) in South Carolina as a Physician Assistant or as an Advanced Practice Nurse (FNP or APNP); appropriate state board certification required.
  • Degree of Supervision: APP will be assigned a primary Supervising/Collaborating Physician employed by MUSC and will report to this physician.
  • Required Licensure, Certifications, Registrations:
    All licenses and certifications must be current prior to start date, including BLS. DEA/DHEC licenses should be initiated prior to the first day of work.

  • Provide direct patient care as described above, including history, examination, diagnostics, documentation, and coordination of care.
Additional Information

Physical Requirements:

Ability to stand, walk, sit, bend, kneel, climb stairs, reach in multiple directions, use hands and wrists, and lift up to 50 lbs as needed. Ability to pass vision requirements and work in a latex-safe environment. Medical facility requires standard safety practices. Occasional exposure to dusty areas or confined spaces may occur.
