Qualifications
  • MUST have a bachelor’s degree.
  • MUST have a valid driver’s license.
  • MUST have at least a year of direct care experience with youth.
  • MUST have at least one year of prior supervisory experience in human services.
  • 21 years of age (as stated in education and experience).
Position Summary

Responsible for the direct supervision and leadership of Behavioral Care Specialists working in an Intense Residential Treatment Program on a designated shift. This position provides daily care, supervision, skills training, guidance, encouragement and support for youth, as well as supervising the shift and staff working it.

Reports To: BCS Manager

Responsibilities
  • Establish supportive, motivational and therapeutic relationships with youth; maintain safety and responsible residential care.
  • Daily supervision and awareness of youth locations; supervise daily routines (meals, school, chores, etc.).
  • Serve as role model and coach youth in problem solving, decision-making, conflict resolution and independent living skills.
  • Read and be familiar with all youth treatment plans; carry out daily living and behavior plans as developed by the treatment team.
  • Provide services in a culturally and linguistically competent manner; participate in trauma-informed care and crisis de-escalation.
  • Maintain confidentiality and appropriate boundaries; participate in staff meetings and required trainings; achieve and maintain First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Promote a positive community atmosphere; communicate effectively with team and other stakeholders; document thoroughly and timely.
  • Ensure facility safety, cleanliness and security; participate in quality improvement activities; follow dress code policies.
  • Follow and abide by all program and agency protocols, policies and procedures; meet scheduling needs including agency holidays when required.
  • Support constructive youth and family visitation and community involvement.
BCS Supervisor Responsibilities
  • Oversee daily operations of BCS staff, including training, orientation and scheduling compliance.
  • Provide guidance and supervision to staff implementing treatment plans and leading recreational activities.
  • Deliver timely performance feedback and recognition; provide monthly supervision for staff on the supervisor’s shift.
  • Coordinate with BCS Manager for annual performance evaluations and corrective actions as needed.
  • Maintain a therapeutic milieu through close supervision; resolve problems, mediate conflicts and promote teamwork.
  • Ensure groups run on schedule; contribute ideas and run groups as needed; maintain shift documentation.
  • Participate in after-hours on-call coverage; serve as an extension of senior management in their absence.
  • Communicate concerns to the Program Director; assign and review work; provide leadership to youth and staff.
  • Participate in Meeting of the Minds weekly; participate in program meetings and quality initiatives.
  • Assist with daily facility maintenance inspections.
Other
  • Be familiar with co-worker roles to initiate internal referrals as needed (nurse, clinician, principal, etc.).
  • Assigned to mandatory extra shifts when needed and may take on special tasks (ordering supplies, shopping, fire drills, errands, etc.).
  • Aid in training of new employees; drive program vehicles as requested.
Training Requirements Specific To This Position
  • Handle with Care Bi-Annually
  • All Training Academy classes and ongoing training as developed
