Primary Role:
Support the American Water Webmaster in the management and maintenance of as a Web Development Intern. Assist with updates and changes to website content, helping ensure accuracy and consistency. Serve as a liaison for website update requests from American Water corporate functional units and state subsidiaries. Contribute to maintaining the overall functionality and usability of the company website, prioritizing customer experience.
Accountabilities
- Receive, review, and implement website update requests from corporate teams and state subsidiaries.
- Update website pages, graphics, documents and links as needed to help ensure information is current and accessible.
- Coordinate with the Webmaster and other staff to resolve content issues and help ensure consistency with branding guidelines.
- Assist in testing website changes for functionality.
- Document updates and maintain a log of completed tasks for accountability and reference.
- Detail oriented to help ensure website content accuracy, consistency and optimal user experience.
- Good working knowledge of website content management systems (CMS), HTML & CSS, Adobe Creative Cloud and basic graphic editing tools.
- Ability to work independently and manage time efficiently across multiple web update requests and deadlines.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to interpret, clarify and confirm update requests.
- Organizational and administrative skills for tracking updates, documenting changes, and managing digital assets.
- Ability to work independently and prioritize multiple assignments.
- Proactive in seeking feedback, input, and coordination from Webmaster, Corporate Communication team, functional units and state teams.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high-quality web content.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills for collaboration within a team environment.
- Capacity to learn new technologies and adapt to changing digital requirements.
- Currently enrolled in or recently completed training, certificate program or degree program in Web Design / Development, Computer Science, Digital Media, or a related field.
- Experience with website content management systems.
- Exposure to graphic editing software, such as Canva & Adobe Creative Cloud, is an asset.
- Previous internship or volunteer experience in website management or digital communications is advantageous.
- Seasonal position (March – September – 26 Weeks) to include regular weekly and emergency hours, as appropriate
- 90% website support/in-office, 10% External Communications support (writing, data analytics, etc.)
- Average 20 hours (2-3 days) per week
- $25.00 per hour pay
- Approximate total compensation for internship: $13,000
- Must be able to pass a background check.
- Reporting location will be Camden HQO-Corporate Communications Department.
