The selected candidate will be eligible for a $10,000 signing bonus hire under the following conditions:
- The selected candidate must pass all background checks (including any and all medical/drug, psychological testing and criminal background).
- The initial $5,000 of the $10,000 signing bonus (taxable and all regular payroll taxes will be withheld) to be paid within one month from the date of hire;
- The remaining $5,000 of the $10,000 signing bonus (taxable and all regular payroll taxes will be withheld) to be paid upon the successful completion of one year of employment at the DRPA.
- The selected candidate must successfully complete the police academy training.
If the candidate does not successfully complete the police academy training, any signing bonus paid must be repaid to the DRPA and will not be eligible for the final $5,000 payment.
- The candidate must remain employed with the DRPA for three years from the completion of the required police academy training, otherwise, the entire $10,000 signing bonus must be repaid to the DRPA at the time of separation.
In addition, if the selected candidate does not remain employed with the DRPA for three years from the completion of the required police academy training, the selected candidate must repay costs incurred by the DRPA for the candidate's attendance at the police academy.

Position PurposeThe Police Officer is responsible for maintaining law and order, protecting life and property, and safeguarding all Authority employees, customers, property, and assets, through preventative, protective, and enforcement efforts. The Police Officer is to take action to ensure a safe, convenient passageway is provided to all customers and employees. This position is potentially hazardous and dangerous.
QualificationsTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the duties, responsibilities, knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. The Authority will adhere to all applicable laws and regulations in assessing an employee's ability to carry out or otherwise meet the job requirements set forth herein in a satisfactory manner.
EssentialDuties And Responsibilities
- Enforcement of both Pennsylvania and New Jersey motor vehicles, civil, criminal, local, state, federal and Authority policies, laws, ordinances, regulations, and guidelines.
- To patrol Authority property on foot or in a vehicle.
- Engage citizens for a lawful purpose, or to render assistance.
- Investigate and clear motor vehicle accidents from Authority property.
- Ensure removal of roadway debris, or obstacles.
- Engage in hazardous activity such as climbing bridges or tower structures, etc. to retrieve and secure potential suicide victims.
- Engage in a variety of miscellaneous assignments and unexpected emergencies as they arise.
- Strive to avoid engaging in negligent actions or conduct, which may cause criminal or civil liability, on behalf of the Authority.
- Effect an arrest, forcibly if necessary, using handcuffs and other restraints; subdues resisting suspects using maneuvers and weapons and resorts to the use of hands and feet and other approved weapons in self-defense.
- Prepare investigative and additional reports, including sketches, using appropriate grammar, symbols, and mathematical computations.
- Gather information in criminal investigations by interviewing and obtaining the statements of victims, witnesses, suspects, and confidential informers.
- Pursue fleeing suspects and perform rescue operations which may involve quickly entering and exiting a law enforcement patrol vehicle.
- This position requires a good driving record and a valid driver’s license from the state wherein he/she resides.
