Job DescriptionPrimary duties include providing tutoring and mentorship designed to promote student success. The Academic Support Services Peer Tutors work directly with students to assist in development of skills and confidence necessary for academic success and provides direct, hands‑on, group tutoring to students with homework, projects, test preparation, papers, and research topics across a broad range of courses. This position assists students in improving academic achievement, supports students by reviewing and clarifying learning problems, and provides useful study skills to students that need supplemental assistance.
ESSENTIALFUNCTIONS
- Ability to work directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds, demonstrating and promoting a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Provide direct and remote tutoring to assist students in gaining proficiency in key concepts for various subject areas.
- Conduct small group tutoring sessions.
- Assess students’ learning needs and develop customized lesson plans.
- Assist students in understanding challenging concepts and improve study skills.
- Collaborate effectively within Academic Support Services to increase student success.
- Provide constructive feedback to students.
- Stay informed about curriculum changes and educational methods relevant to the subject(s) you tutor.
- Comply with all safety, fire and smoking regulations.
- Complete all mandatory compliance and safety training as scheduled by Human Resources.
- Perform all other duties as assigned by the Tutoring Coordinator of eLearning and Academic Support Services.
- High school diploma.
- Previous tutoring or teaching experience preferred.
- Strong knowledge in subject matter.
- Proficiency in the use of the Microsoft Office suite of software packages.
- Strong understanding of the subject matter.
- Assist students with homework, projects, test preparation, papers, and research topics.
- Familiarity with desk‑top software applications required.
- Strong interpersonal, organizational and customer service skills.
- Ability to quickly respond to changing institutional needs and work environments.
- Ability to travel between and to work at any of the College campuses.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a diverse population.
- Bilingual preferred.
- Must be a current student at Camden County College.
- 3.0 GPA.
