Join the Mastery Teaching Residency program to launch a dynamic teaching career in our public charter schools. Mastery Schools, founded in 2001, operates 23 K‑12 schools in Philadelphia and Camden, serving over 14,000 students.

Eligibility& Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required, with a record of personal, professional, and/or academic achievement.
- Minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.0 (contact us if below 3.0).
- If currently in school, expected Bachelor’s degree by June 2026.
- Official transcript required for application to Relay Graduate School of Education or American University.
- Commitment to and experience (preferable) working with underserved communities.
- Strong sense of professional responsibility and genuine interest in student success.
- Ability to motivate, support, and challenge students in a student‑centered, standards‑driven classroom.
- Commitment to professional growth, self‑reflection, receptiveness to feedback, and a desire to continuously improve and effectively address challenges.
The Residency is a multi‑year program designed to transition aspiring educators—recent graduates and career changers—into full‑time teaching roles.
- Elementary (K‑5) Experience
:
Residents implement Mastery’s rigorous literacy and math curricula, support small‑group instruction in push‑in and pull‑out settings, and collaborate with skilled Special and General Education teachers to strengthen student skills. - Middle/Secondary (6‑12) Experience
:
Residents work closely with a mentor teacher in their content area, gradually increasing classroom responsibility and engaging in frequent coaching, practice opportunities, and feedback.
- Provide small and whole group academic support instruction.
- Attend weekly practice sessions and an evening academic content class.
- Complete New Jersey teacher certification requirements and Relay academic coursework.
- Commit to serve Mastery’s school communities for at least three years after the Residency.
- Work with lead teachers to implement curriculum, utilize classroom routines, analyze assessment data, build relationships with families, collaborate on best practices, and ensure mastery of standards.
- Other responsibilities as requested.
Full‑time salary and benefits are provided. In the first year, residents receive a full‑time salary as a support teacher, with promotion to lead teacher salary in the second year.

- Extensive weekly training, real‑time practice sessions, and actionable feedback.
- A New Jersey Teaching Certificate (depending on placement state and successful completion of Praxis and Basic Skills tests) at the end of Year 1.
- A Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) at the end of Year 2 from Relay Graduate School of Education or American University.
New‑to‑Mastery Resident Teachers can expect a starting annual salary of $48,200. Residents are eligible for up to $5,000 for Year‑1 tuition reimbursement.
