Salary dependent on experience and qualifications. Higher rates are reserved for candidates with substantial experience and/or relevant training such as a recognised Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent). Pay is determined in line with school expectations and Agency Worker Regulations (AWR), where applicable.
About the Role
We are recruiting on behalf of a primary school in Camden for a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 support for a pupil in Year 4 with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) and Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA). The successful candidate will support the pupil’s emotional regulation, sensory needs, learning engagement and social development, helping her access the curriculum and participate positively in school life.
The role will involve delivering an individual support programme both in the classroom and through targeted interventions outside the classroom. The pupil is currently working within the Year 2–Year 3 academic range, and the Teaching Assistant will play a key role in supporting her progress, confidence and overall wellbeing.
Requirements
To be eligible for this role and the stated rate of pay, applicants must have:
• At least 2 years’ experience supporting pupils with SEND in a school setting
• Experience working with children with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) and social communication needs
• Experience or training supporting pupils with Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA)
• Experience working 1:1 with a SEN pupil and delivering individual learning programmes and interventions
• Experience following SALT, OT and IEP targets under the guidance of the SENCo
• Knowledge of emotional regulation and sensory processing needs
• Understanding of de-escalation strategies and trauma-informed practice (Team Teach experience desirable)
• Ability to build positive relationships with pupils, staff and parents
Due to the nature of the role, the successful candidate will need to be female as the position involves supporting a toileting programme and providing intimate care.
Key Responsibilities
• Provide 1:1 support to help the pupil regulate emotions and manage anxiety or sensory overload.
• Use calm de-escalation strategies during periods of dysregulation.
• Support learning by adapting tasks and assisting with activities under the guidance of the class teacher and SENCo.
• Encourage engagement in learning using flexible, low-demand approaches.
• Support social communication and positive peer interactions.
• Implement sensory strategies and movement breaks where required.
• Provide support with toileting routines and intimate care when needed.
• Monitor progress and share updates with staff and parents.
