About the Role:

We are seeking a highly motivated Bioinformatician to join Cellular Genomics Informatics at the Wellcome Sanger Institute for a 2‑year fixed‑term contract on exciting projects focused on supporting the science in our programme. The new team members will work on the daily support of faculties, the tailoring of workflows to different projects and the management and coordination of the generated data.

You will work closely with a mix of computational and wet‑lab researchers in the single‑cell field, supporting interactions with PhD students and Postdocs and providing general analysis and IT guidance.

About Us:

The Cellular Genomics Informatics team provides efficient access to cutting‑edge analysis methods at the Cellular Genomics programme of the Sanger Institute, which leads a number of world‑class research initiatives like the Human Cell Atlas. Our focus is the development and operation of large‑scale workflows, tools and infrastructure for data analysis that support the programme’s research goals.

Key Responsibilities:
  • You will support bioinformatics analysis and interpretation of large‑scale multi‑modal genomics data.
  • Collaborate with computational models to analyse and interpret data, to understand cell type and tissue function.
  • Contribute to data management for reproducible analysis and single‑cell data integration pipelines.
About You:

You will curate, manage and perform high‑quality computational data analysis of genomics data to answer specific single‑cell questions. In addition to strong communication skills, you will be highly creative, flexible and organised with a logical and diligent approach to information gathering. You are a detail‑oriented problem solver eager to learn and develop in areas where you have less experience. Teamwork and collaboration are essential, and you will be enthusiastic about creating effective and productive working relationships with collaborators both within and outside the team.

  • Experience in bioinformatics or a related discipline, specifically working with Next Generation Sequencing data
  • Proficient in a high‑level programming language (Python or R)
  • Familiar with UNIX environments and bash scripting
  • Experience working with code versioning tools (Git Lab/github)
  • Ability to work independently and organise own workload
  • Motivation and ambition to make a personal contribution to GRL research
  • Excellent communication skills to allow efficient interactions with collaborators
  • Team player with the ability to work with others in a collegiate and collaborative environment
Salary per annum (dependent upon skills and experience):

£36,924-£43,867
