Overview

We have a fantastic opportunity for full time Ambulance Care Assistants to join our team based in Cambridge. This is a full time position between the hours of 05:30 am–00:00 pm, Monday‑Sunday (40 hrs per week – 4 days a week), covering various days including weekends. An Ambulance Care Assistant (ACA) is a hugely rewarding and fulfilling role. Each day you’ll be helping someone in need, making their lives that little bit easier, and knowing that you make a difference to their day provides a real sense of achievement.

Responsibilities
  • Transport elderly, sick and vulnerable service users to and from medical appointments and between health‑care facilities. This can be carried out as two‑person crews or alone, so it is vital to hold a full UK driving licence and to have a good degree of physical fitness.
  • Assisting in the transportation of ‘end of life’ service users, ensuring a high level of empathy is present at all times.
  • Building rapport by effectively communicating with patients and their relatives/friends.
  • Responsible for lifting, securing and helping service users in and out of the Ambulance.
  • Assist with the handing over of patients to appropriate staff on arrival at treatment centres or to family/friends at their homes.
  • Transfer patients from beds to stretchers, chairs to chairs or similar both in and out of hospital and medical/commercial flights.
  • Assisting service users with challenging behaviour and/or mental health illnesses.
  • Ensuring that the ambulance is kept safe, clean and tidy.
Requirements
  • Hold a valid UK manual driving licence (6 points maximum).
  • Be able to work flexible shifts within the operational hours of 05:30 am–00:00 pm, Monday‑Sunday.
  • Be an effective communicator and experienced at communicating with others in emotional circumstances.
  • Be physically fit for patient handling and moving.
  • Pass an Enhanced DBS check (company funded).
  • Be committed to patient care.
  • Have a natural flair for teamwork and collaboration.
