The Perse School Cambridge is one of the country’s leading independent co-educational day schools for children aged 3-18.
A Perse education is three-dimensional with all teaching staff contributing to the school’s academic, pastoral and extra-curricular programmes.
Our aim is to be a leading employer of choice. This means we strive to be a school where staff say they are proud and excited to work, and feel valued, respected and motivated. We are committed to providing a very competitive salary and benefits scheme at the same time as offering a wide range of opportunities for personal and professional development.
We want our staff to feel engaged and purposeful so that they, in turn, help pupils to be happy and successful.
Job Purpose
To maintain a visible and professional security presence across the School site, with pupil welfare as the central priority. You will help ensure pupils are safe, appropriately supervised, and where they should be at the right times; support secure access and effective visitor management; monitor and review CCTV when required; and carry out regular safety walks. The role requires calm, sound judgement, excellent communication skills, and a strong safeguarding focus.
Person Specification

* Sound understanding of health and safety matters, with the ability to apply safe working practices and support routine site compliance requirements.
* Strong awareness of pupil welfare and safeguarding, and the ability to act calmly, appropriately and proportionately in a school environment.
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the confidence to build rapport with pupils while maintaining authority and clear boundaries.
* Good observational skills, sound judgement and the ability to remain vigilant for sustained periods.
* Comfortable using (or willing to learn) security technology including CCTV, access control systems, radios and basic IT tools.
* Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and respond flexibly to changing priorities.
* Reliable, punctual, and professional, with a strong sense of integrity and confidentiality.
* Flexible to work at evening events and weekends as necessary (reasonable notice is provided in line with planned School calendar)
Desirable
* SIA licence (or willingness to work towards one if required by the School).
* D1 driving license (or willingness to undertake training)
* MiDAS (Minibus Driver Awareness Scheme) certificate (or willingness to undertake training)
* First Aid qualification (or willingness to undertake training).
* Previous experience working in a school or with young people, or in environments requiring strong safeguarding awareness.
* Familiarity with health & safety reporting, risk assessments and basic site risk management.
* Experience supporting events, crowd/visitor management, and working on multi-building sites.
Commitment to Safeguarding
All staff must understand their responsibilities to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people. This will include:
* Promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young people at all times, in line with the school’s Safeguarding Policy, the Code of Conduct and the statutory guidance Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE).
* Reporting any safeguarding concerns to the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL), or a Deputy DSL (DDSL), in line with school procedures.
* Undergoing required safeguarding training and remaining up to date with safeguarding policy updates in line with the timescales required.
* Exercising professional judgement when handling and sharing information and content, ensuring that no material compromises the safety, dignity or privacy of children or young people.
