Design Technology and Art Technician – Anglian Learning

Hours:

37 hours per week, Term Time + 5 days

About the Role

Reporting to the Head of Department / Principal, you will support lessons in Design Technology, Art and Food Technology, ensuring pupils can work safely and confidently with specialist equipment and materials.

You will be based at Bassingbourn Village College, with occasional travel across the Trust if required.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in classrooms and workshops to ensure safe use of specialist tools and equipment
  • Provide 1:1 support to pupils where required
  • Prepare materials and resources for lessons
  • Support inclusion and safe working practices for all pupils
  • Carry out risk assessments and provide health & safety guidance
  • Prepare classroom displays
Managing Resources
  • Clean, maintain and carry out minor repairs on tools and equipment
  • Test machinery and maintain accurate safety records
  • Organise and maintain workshops, kitchens, classrooms and storage areas
  • Control and safely store chemicals, flammables and specialist solutions (COSHH compliant)
  • Monitor stock levels, raise orders and maintain inventories
  • Carry out administrative tasks including data entry, filing and photocopying
Health & Safety
  • Maintain high standards of health and safety across departments
  • Remove unsafe equipment from use and provide ongoing safety advice
  • Liaise with PAT testing and support school-wide health & safety procedures
  • Train as a First Aider and join the school rota
Wider School Support
  • Uphold safeguarding, data protection and confidentiality policies
  • Support equality, diversity and inclusion
  • Assist with supervision of pupils when required
  • Accompany pupils on trips and visits
  • Attend training, meetings and professional development activities
Person Specification
  • GCSE Grade C/4+ (or equivalent) in Maths and English
  • Experience using and maintaining workshop tools, art materials and/or kitchen equipment
  • Knowledge of Health & Safety procedures in practical environments
  • Experience preparing resources and materials for lessons
  • Knowledge of design techniques and practical design-related tasks
  • Experience working in an educational setting
  • Experience as a Learning Support Assistant
  • Stock control and procurement experience
  • CAD skills or willingness to develop them
