We have an exciting opportunity to join our proofreading team here at Cambridge University Press and Assessment. Our team is dedicated to delivering a meticulous, high-quality proofreading service for question paper materials, ensuring they meet the highest standard—100% error-free.

We are Cambridge University Press & Assessment, a world-leading academic publisher and assessment organisation and a proud part of the University of Cambridge.

About the role

We are looking for a talented proofreader to help bring Cambridge's distinctive house style to life. In this role, you will proofread question paper materials across all subjects and qualification levels, ensuring they are error-free and adhere to the agreed style.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Proofread question paper materials to ensure accuracy in grammar, spelling, typography, layout, and formatting
  • Contribute to the ongoing improvement of team processes and procedures
  • Follow British Standard Mark up and house style guidelines with consistency
  • Collaborate closely with the Proofreading Team Leader and Studio colleagues to deliver projects on time
  • Maintain high standards of service delivery, supporting the reputation of the Cambridge brand
  • Identify and implement improvements to processes and workflows
  • Ensure compliance with ISO, BS accreditations, and legislative requirements

Flexible working requests will be considered from the first day of employment, including other work arrangements should you require adjustments due to a disability or long-term health condition. As the work requires close collaboration and access to secure materials, the role is fully on-site and we are unable to offer hybrid working for this role. Your presence at our Whittlesford or Cambridge office will be essential.

About You
To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Proven experience in proofreading, ideally within an educational or technical setting, supported by formal training or on-the-job development.
  • Strong command of English grammar and plain English, with the ability to apply complex style guides and detailed checklists accurately.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of copy prep and proof correction marks (BS 5261C:2005)
  • Excellent attention to detail and consistency, even when working with repetitive formats, alongside good IT skills (including Adobe Acrobat mark-up tools).
  • Excellent organisational, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • A quality assurance mindset and a reliable, responsible approach
  • Willingness to learn, adapt, and work collaboratively

If you meet the above minimum requirements, we encourage you to apply. We would also encourage applications from those who have basic proofreading skills and experience who are eager to learn and develop their skills. Your application will be even stronger if you can also demonstrate the following desirable criteria:

  • Experience working to tight deadlines in a production environment
