Trainee Estimator

Job Summary

With a supportive culture, structured training and clear progression routes, they are looking for a Trainee Estimator to join their team.

Responsibilities

You’ll work closely with senior estimators and take responsibility for producing accurate costings and tender submissions for healthcare and education projects. This is a hands-on, learning-first role with exposure to pre-construction, procurement and commercial management.

* Support senior estimators in preparing tender submissions and cost plans

* Measure drawings and produce take-offs using plans and software

* Obtain and compare supplier and subcontractor quotations

* Prepare bills of quantities, cost breakdowns and pricing schedules

* Input and maintain estimate databases and pricing templates

* Attend site visits and pre-tender meetings to gather information

* Ensure compliance with client-specific requirements, health & safety and procurement procedures

* Help produce value-engineering options and variance reports

Qualifications

* Strong numeracy and attention to detail

* Some experience or interest in construction, building services, quantity surveying or estimating (placements, college courses, apprenticeships or relevant admin/estimating experience)

* Basic understanding of construction drawings and specifications (training provided if needed)

* Good IT skills; comfortable with Excel. Familiarity with estimating software is a plus but not essential

* Excellent communication and organisation skills

* A proactive, coachable attitude and desire to progress into a qualified estimator role

* Willingness to travel to local sites
