Responsibilities
- Perform skilled and semi-skilled maintenance in replacement, minor installation and/or repair of plumbing equipment (e.g., water & steam lines, sewer pipes, trap fittings, plumbing fixtures, pumps, regulators, valves, faucets, toilets, sinks, bathtubs, heating & air conditioning, drinking fountains, etc.) and electrical equipment (e.g., light fixtures, electrical outlets, switches, motors, appliances, electrical circuits, emergency generator, fire alarms, fans, radios, televisions, meters, etc.).
- Do semi-skilled and skilled carpentry work in alteration and/or repair of buildings, equipment and wooden structures (e.g., doors, windows, walls, woodwork, floors, partitions, stairways, furniture, door closures).
- Repair roof and minor locks, install security devices and locks.
- Assist or work alone in painting of fixtures, rooms, buildings, signs & equipment; patch drywall and prepare surfaces for painting; perform masonry work.
- Operate and maintain boilers and related equipment (e.g., collect & test water samples and adjust based on results, perform safety checks, start-up and shut down boilers as directed).
- Operate machine tools & welding equipment for repairs to metal parts and equipment; assist in repair & maintenance of interior & exterior maintenance equipment and other specialized equipment (e.g., dental equipment, laboratory equipment).
- Perform minor vehicle repairs & maintenance (e.g., change oil & filter, check transmission fluid, tire air pressure).
- Complete work reports, orders and inventories of maintenance equipment/supplies.
- Perform other related duties as required: interior custodial duties related to maintenance projects (e.g., mop, sweep, wash walls & windows); exterior groundskeeping duties (e.g., remove snow/ice from walkways, spread salt); attend mandated training sessions and maintenance meetings.
- Formal education in arithmetic that includes addition & subtraction & in reading, writing & speaking common English vocabulary.
- 6 months training or 6 months experience in maintenance repair work (e.g., basic electricity, plumbing, carpentry, masonry repair & use of associated hand & power tools & equipment).
- In the Department of Natural Resources, Division of Forestry only, applicants must have successfully completed the mandated basic firefighter/introduction to fire behavior course (S‑130/S‑190).
- Classification determined to be unskilled labor class & therefore exempt from written examination.
- Valid commercial driver's license required if motor equipment is of type & size regulated by sections 4506.01 & 4506.12 of Ohio revised code.
- Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications for Employment may be substituted for the experience required, but not for the mandated licensure.
