Job Description
- Perform skilled and semi‑skilled maintenance in replacement, minor installation, or repair of plumbing equipment (e.g., water & steam lines, sewer pipes, trap fittings, plumbing fixtures, pumps, regulators, valves, faucets, toilets, sinks, bathtubs, heating & air conditioning, piping drinking fountains, etc.).
- Repair electrical equipment (e.g., light fixtures, electrical outlets, switches, motors, appliances, electrical circuits, emergency generator, fire alarms, fans, radios, televisions, meters, etc.).
- Perform semi‑skilled and skilled carpentry work on alterations or repairs to buildings, equipment, and wooden structures (e.g., doors, windows, walls, woodwork, floors, partitions, stairways, furniture, door closures).
- Conduct roof and minor lock repair and install security devices and locks.
- Assist or work alone on painting of fixtures, rooms, buildings, signs & equipment; patch drywall and prepare surfaces for painting; perform masonry work.
- Operate and maintain boilers and related equipment, collect & test water samples, adjust based on results, perform safety checks, start‑up and remove boilers from service as directed.
- Operate machine tools & welding equipment in making repairs to metal parts and equipment; assist in repair & maintenance of interior & exterior maintenance equipment & other specialized equipment (e.g., dental equipment, laboratory equipment, etc.).
- Perform minor vehicle repairs & maintenance (e.g., changes oil & filter, checks transmission fluid, tire air pressure, etc.).
- Complete work reports, orders and inventories maintenance equipment/supplies.
- Perform other related duties as required: interior custodial duties related to maintenance projects (e.g., mop, sweep, wash walls & windows); exterior groundskeeping duties (e.g., remove snow/ice from walkways, spread salt, etc.); attend mandated training sessions and maintenance meetings.
Qualifications
- Formal education in arithmetic that includes addition & subtraction and in reading, writing & speaking common English vocabulary.
- 6 months training or 6 months experience in maintenance repair work (basic electricity, plumbing, carpentry, masonry repair & use of associated hand & power tools & equipment).
- Valid commercial driver's license required if motor equipment is of type & size regulated by sections 4506.01 & 4506.12 of Ohio revised code.
- In the Department of Natural Resources, Division of Forestry only, applicants must have successfully completed the mandated basic firefighter/introduction to fire behavior course (S‑130/S‑190).
- Minimum Class Qualifications for Employment noted above may be substituted for the experience required, but not for the mandated licensure.
